Actress Rie Hasegawa, 38, says she has broken up with actor Masaki Kanda, 61, because he wouldn't propose to her.
Hasegawa broke the news on her blog this week. She wrote that "I believed and waited for a proposal from him for about a year. However, it didn't happen. We talked a lot about marriage but in the end, we decided it wouldn't be a good idea."
A spokesman for Kanda's agency said that the actor would not be making any official statement.

Why would a handsome, rich 61 year old celebrity want get married? Baffling!
Yukio Mishima
After being married to Seiko Matsuda, he's had a sour taste of marriage to a Japanese lady and said who needs the punishment! Why would a famous, wealthy man want to get bogged down with extra luggage when he can play the field! I'd like to see more men follow his lead! Single, free, sexually satisfied and with money to burn, or sexually deprived, scorned and unappreciated? Like my granny used to say, " A bachelor never makes the same mistake once! " Onya Masaki!

We decided!? Sounds like he did. She could have asked him - though I suspect she knew the answer would be no.
Why any man here gets married baffles me. Everything a wife "provides" can be bought - except kids and well, these days you can adopt, pay someone to have one for you... Companionship certainly isn't why as most couples here lead seperate lives.

WHy commit to something when you're getting it for free??

It's so sad that I agree with tmarie.

Good for her.

Why didn't she just get pregnant like most Japanese girls these days?
Ben_Jackinoff
Possibly she did not want to have to make a future announcement about getting divorced?

Seems that anyone with a high profile in Japan cannot or will not marry for love. I guess that is pretty much the same in other countries.

No news is...... no news.

Sarcasm321
Marriage is a fool's game and becoming increasingly outdated in he 21st century.
zurcronium
She needs to find some older ready to settle down. Maybe 100 or so.
bibleblack
maybe she should try harder and shows him what a potential wife she could becomes. waiting isn't going to cut it especially for a man who got money.
LoveNot
Maybe he is not a real man.

Gold-diggers aren't entitled to assets unless they are legally married, or in the will.
