Didn't he used to do coffee CMs?

During the Nomomania days he was in all kinds of commercials.

Nomo was an outstanding pitcher but is not exactly Mr. Congeniality. He has a standoffish quality that makes him less appealing. Apparently he mastered the game of baseball but not the game of life. I wonder if he has the communications skills to really be a coach, or a team manager, and not just play one in a commercial?

As I recall, the Japanese sports media totally dissed Nomo for leaving Japan and going to the MLB. I'd be unfriendly to them too.

I just wish he showed a bit of expression in his face. You can never tell when he's won or lost a match. And his and Matsuzaka's face are looker more and more alike.

Pukey - You're right. Nomo's probably a fan of Keanu Reeves and imitates his facial expressions, ha ha ha!

He was in TV commercials years ago.

The tornado pitching style is a world famous meme, crossing langauges and generations. All you need to do is demonstrate it and people know exactly who your talking about.

His pitching cooled down as much as the AC he's promoting

I didn't realize he was so down on his luck. Hope the money from this commercial will put some food on the table.

As I recall Nomo fired the first shot by making a comment in the US media about Japanese baseball being substandard compared to American MLB.

How did he do in the MLB?

Started out well with the Dodgers (2.5 ERA), then began to fizzle out with the 8 or 9 other teams that picked him up afterwards.

I have met Nomo. He is a nice guy.

2 no hitters should get him into the hall of fame. He was the hottest pitcher in his fisrt year and helped the Dodgers to the playoffs. Lesson there for Ichiro.

Nomo was initially reviled for "jumping" to the majors. His grandmother was shown on TV tut-tutting his 'betrayal'. THEN, when he began to win, all Japan praised him. Get your facts straight. And he ain't broke. He probably got a cool million bucks for that ad.

I heard he was a part/full owner of a minor league team in the U.S. Sounds like he's not hurting financially. I'm sure he's smart enough to have invested his hard-earned and well-deserved cash when he was at the top of his profession. Still the commercial for an AC? Well, there are times when you go where the money is, no?

I saw the commerical, he should have held on to his day job!
