Television and radio personality Hiroshi Kume, 66, has donated 200 million yen to an earthquake relief fund.
Kume declined to comment on his donation but sources say that he also sold many of his possessions at a charity auction which took place at a meeting for volunteers. He is also said to have expressed a strong interest in volunteering himself. The collection raised a total of 550 million yen or $6.8 million.

He surely lives in a different financial world than I do. I've dropped a few thousand yen in loose change in the Red Cross boxes the past week. Wish he were back doing the news.

I hope this sets an example to follow.
Not meaning to criticize anyone here, I quote a proverb:
He who gives little gives from his heart; he who gives much gives from his wealth.

A man gives 200 millions yen. Two men steal 10,000 yen. What a contrast!

Kume! Still alive! I remember when he anchored the 10pm Asahi TV News and his hair was black! Good on him for doing this.
