Freelance TV presenter Hiroshi Kume, 64, will host TBS's new infotainment program from October, which is produced by TV-radio writer Yasushi Akimoto, 52, the Nikkan Sports newspaper reported Wednesday.
The program, whose title has not yet been announced, will cover a wide range of news from politics to entertainment. It will be co-produced by Kume.
Kume was quoted by the paper as saying, “Commercial television is now at a turning point as an industry. Viewer ratings are down and networks are facing financial difficulties. I would like to do whatever I can now for the industry.”
The new program is schedule to air from October 22 at 10 p.m.

TV presenter?
Does this mean commentator? Host?

If the program is anything like Kume's recent segment about Japanese twentysomethings, it may be worth watching.

Hiroshi Kume, a controversial Tv personality may stir up racism again.

some14some - yes he has and probably will again.

And after nearly 20 years of co-producing "News Station", I think he can be viewed as a legitimate journalist, not just a "TV presenter". His subsequent work has been hit-or-miss, but that is as much the fault of the networks as it is a product of his desire to get back on the air.

Good grief, is that Kume?! He's lookin' old as hell!

That was my reaction, Sarge....

He co-produces News Station? I thought he quit or was fired because he was getting too expensive to keep. Well, well, you learn something new everyday.

I'm pretty sure Kume-san was fired for referring to the workers paradise of Myanmar by its tainted colonial name of Burma.

Kume is an idiot. It's embarassing watching him. I remember an interview with Anthony Hopkins. Kume asked him so many stupid questions that Hopkins got up and walked out!
