Ayler I think your confused by the plethora of awards Villeneuve has received in Canada. Sorry to say, but hardly in the same league.

Lesson learnt- Being grammatically accurate is far more important than being factually accurate.

Well done for pointing that out..

Hong kong should not have been returned to People's Republic of China. The UK could've still made Hong Kong independent as the deal was between the Empire of China and not the terrorist group turned govt of mainland china (PRC). Or give Hong Kong to the more legitimate successor: the Republic of China (Taiwan). Oh well, too late now...

Hong Kong was returned to China by former colonial ruler Britain in 1997 under the ++agreement that its freedoms would be guaranteed for 50 years.**

Who would have known China would fail to honour the agreement.

But there are growing concerns Beijing is no longer adhering to the deal and critics accuse it of interference in a wide range of areas, from politics to the media and education.

Growing concerns !

They were fully grown concerns by the Hong Kong people years before the hand back of HK.

And since when did China NOT interfere in what it concerns internal matters and nothing to do with the outside world..

Others called for a boycott of the film, due for release in November.

Really? Boycott a film because some PR company wasn't happy with Hong Kong's skyline and wanted to add a large structure in the posters? Chill people. They're PR weenies.

“Why don’t you put a pyramid in New York” There was an older Sci-fi called "Immortal" actually put a pyramid in NY.

Seems staged to me. Would anyone have heard of this movie otherwise? no. And of course "a third party vendor" made the mistake. Yawn. The mistake makes no sense whatsoever. This is a tempest in a teapot. A contrived one.

Hollywood can't tell the difference between China, Korea and Japan. One can hardly expect them to understand political differences.

The pathetic truth is that Hollywood is very racist and still hold very cavalier and dismissive attitudes toward Asians as well as Asian Americans.

A stupid screw up, but needless to say, the Shanghai skyline is better than Hong Kong's.

Ayler

This will not be a 'low-grade Hollywood sci-fi movie'. The director's previous film won 3 Oscars and the Palme d'Or. Hong Kong should be glad of the attention.

Sorry, but that is utter nonsense. 'Sicario' had three Oscar NOMINATIONS and a Palme d'Or NOMINATION- none of which it won.

How stupid can these photoshoppers get?

Anyway, about the pro-independent movement - it wouldn't have existed if Beijing had treated HKers better. Trying to do away with local Cantonese culture and language, trying to brainwash children with patriotic education a la Abe, and flooding the city with people from the mainland clearing out shelves in supermarkets. When you start kidnapping people in HK and taking them to the mainland without even telling anyone and with the blessing of Beijing, of course people are going to start panicking.

^....fear for their independence from mainland

And, that's exactly why just a little thing would get on their nerves. There is pro-independent movement - but how HK is going to get military to defend itself? Then, there are also a lot of people looking for way out - just like prior to 1997. HK's so -call governor sold out HK's people kissing Beijing's behind. Many of those "voices" keep opening their traps with pro-Beijing propaganda..... People who voices their objection could simply be wrestled away into mainland even though police in China has no jurisdiction in HK.

Just another social media over-reaction. A movie studio stuffed up a poster. The people of Hong Kong may well fear for their independence from mainland pressures, but is a poster stuff-up from a low-grade Hollywood sci-fi movie really what you want to spend your day whinging about?
