"None of us were interested in taking sides with this movie."

I don't care about what the movie has to say, but come on, you're stupid if you expect people to believe that...

Pretty sick regardless of what political posture you take. I’m liberal but find this to be so hypocritical coming from Hollywood which is full of uneducated, out of touch rich folks who want to tell everyone how to live and think.

The US is divided enough with enough violence already.

So... it’s a modern version of the most dangerous game?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Isn't this movie just the purge reimagined to take place everyday instead of one day per year?

So... it’s a modern version of the most dangerous game?

Yep, the original short story was written nearly 100 years ago and is one of the most anthologized stories ever, with several movies and radio plays based on it. Hardly a new idea at all.

The movie genre is not new eg. Battle Royale, Hunger Games and there are countless 1st person shooter video games. Where was the outrage then?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

I was gonna say, seems like all they did was take "The Most Dangerous Game" and mix it with something like "The Purge."

How is this outrageous or pushing boundaries again?

Ok, movie sounds like a BAD plot attached to a very old story(nothing wrong with the story imo!)

That said I say let it play in theatres & see what happens, there are plenty of crappy movies being released, & the odd decent one

People can talk with the wallets & opinions AFTER seeing the flick!

Dated idea and likely a rubbish movie.

I do like how they managed to work "Trump" and "racist" into this article.

I do like how they managed to work "Trump" and "racist" into this article.

Good point. They make it appear in the headline as though Trump was again accused of racism, when in fact it was Trump who called the movie racist. Typical media tactic, unfortunately. They know people don't read beyond the headlines.

Not only does it show how sick Hollywood is, but it is far from a "satirical social thriller": it actually goes on in places like Bohemian Grove, with psycho/sociopaths hunting, raping and torturing humans, mostly children.

And top bods at Hollywood doubtless know this, and perhaps participate in it.

Sick puppies, worshipers of Lucifer and Moloch.

Just let the film go through its motions and not bring attention to it, the film would go to video quickly, and would be dismissed as a stupid movie, no one watched. I mean, released films have included Centipede and turning Justin Long into a walrus. Those who want to watch it, will, anyways.

Just let it go, as some freezing woman once said.

Bringing attention just gives it legs to make some money.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Yes "supposed to be".  Doesn't sound funny to me.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I think it sounds hilarious - this film just sounds like a sketch you'd see in Monty Python, or an episode of the The Goodies.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Whether this film is good or bad, I would assume that Trump and cronies wouldn't batter an eyelid if the positions were reversed in the film, or if it was about white republicans shooting ethnic minorities for giggles.

Please don’t stereotype, not all Republicans are White? The party is very diverse.

I agree.

It isn't.

Seems that the fact that a film is being made about Americans murdering their fellow citizens for what they believe is getting lost on people.

It does not matter who the shooters or victims are in this movie. The fact it is being made this way given the current division among the American populace is disgusting.

It was supposed to be a comedy. People really need to take a deep breath.

Nah, they just want to be outraged about something. They do seem very thin-skinned, whipping themselves into a frenzy of indignation over the tiniest of perceived slights. I remember watching Death Race 2000 as a kid and finding it highly amusing. None of us went out and ran over old ladies in a car, we all knew it was just a movie....

The 1971 mockumentary, Punishment Park, was the original human-hunting shocker (discounting "Injun"-hunting westerns) featuring a fascist Amerika hunting down its sons and daughters as disposable vermin-like untermenschen.

What nonsense. Nothing of the sort happens at Bohemian Grove. It's no more likely than it happening at a large family picnic.

Broken clock moment when I agree with commanteer. That’s some QAnon conspiracy nonsense.

The republican party is white, and getting whiter

As is the Democrat party.

It isn't.

It is, saying it isn’t is like saying the Hollywood industry is conservative down to its roots.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

Boy am I bored of American politics.

Yes the movie is based on an old premise.

No, I'd never heard of it before.

Even with this - OMG! look at this controversy! - PR exercise, I still don't care.

And yet, novel books from non-elite Hollywood stars have very few buyers. They go unnoticed without millions of dollars in ads or sponsorship.

It isn’t, and it isn’t.

I really really like how they use the word “elite” in this writing. It just lays out the cowardice of the left cuz they can never be associated with “those” types. I am rolling on the floor laughing my a@@ off, especially after reading how one of those “elites” recently mowed down a tent for registering republican voters in a Walmart parking lot in Florida with his vann potentially killing many innocent people. This guy was living “The Hunt”.

He was conservative, just like every mass shooter since 2016.

You guys keep trying to deny that reality.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

it is hard to beliee how horrific Hollywood and the people who run it have become. And truly this will do nothing more than enflame and foment social unrest. What a sad sad thing to read about posing as entertainment. I have not gone to a big studio movie in years not since the Jurrasic Park horrors which everyone else brushed off as a thriller. It has gotten much worse. thanks for reporting on this. that is good coverage.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Hey,

if it causes the POTUS cry-baby to get his panties in a twist - I am wiling to give it a shot.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Strangerland, you keep using the word "reality", but you apparently have a different definition for it than Websters.

Unless you can provide a source to back up your claim that the van driver was a conservative, that is. Bonus points for doing the same for your "just like every mass shooter since 2016" claim.

I think I saw previews for this movie. Oh wait, it was the undercover videos of Bernie staffers expressing their desires to put people who disagree with them in gulags, and burn down cities.

@zichi

The republican party is white, and getting whiter.

You're apparently unaware of two political movements in the U.S. One is #WalkAway, where people are leaving the Democrat Party (or the Democrat Party left them, as it continues to goosestep to the Left). The other is #BlackNotDemocrat, where... well you can probably figure that one out. I recommend that you look into both of these to get some current insight into American politics.

While you're doing that, you may see some recent polling numbers where Trump has a 28% approval rating - and growing - among Americans who are black. By the way, did you know that 19% of Trump's voters in 2016 identified as progressives (according to Forbes)? Did you know that a survey was done of the people attending a Trump rally in Florida, and 24% of them were registered Democrats and 27% were Hispanic? At a Mississippi rally, 20% were black and 27% were Democrats. These numbers have been fairly consistent for all Trump rallies.

So if you want to emulate this movie (or fantasize about it), you'll end up hunting people of color and your own political party. Not a good look, dude.

...as it continues to goosestep to the Left

What and where is "the Left" in Amerika? The country has always been the possession of plutocrats, just as right-wing founding father John Jay bluntly put it: “No power on earth has a right to take our property from us without our consent.” “Those who own the country ought to govern it.”

I guess all those right-wing folk who "own the country" today must getting a little nervous as they start to feel the "Bern" from Sanders and his grass-roots movement. Could it really be that "The times they are a-changin'" in the USA's "Punishment Park"?

Yup, exactly.
