Francis Ford Coppola: Scorsese was being kind – Marvel movies are despicable.

couldnt agree more the demographics are just circling the drain like people I.q’s, but forget all that it’s good for the shareholders.

I'm sure it will be the same every year from now on. (Good or bad)

KentarogaijinToday 10:18 am JSTMovie is dead..

Rehashing, rinse, repeat.

The last movie in a cinema that I saw was the 50th anniversary remade/remodeled rerelease of 'Yellow Submarine'. I wanted to see the IMAX version of 'Live Baby Live' (INXS) but the local ticket office phone lines for the select theaters were all haywire.

Welcome to free market capitalism, winner takes all the profit, concentration that leads to monopoly, go buy Disney stock while you can.

People always say they want something new, but the truth is, even if it's something new and good, people don't go

That's because when people don't know much about something (i.e. "new"), they don't feel like going

People feel comfortable when something is more familiar; something they know a little about; something they already have an idea whether they'll like it or not

If they don't have much idea about something, they don't feel like going. They may wait for word-of-mouth, but when everybody else is also waiting for word-of-mouth, then that means nobody is going first

They're more comfortable with name brands - they feel safe spending precious ticket prices and popcorn on brands they know

That's what's happening

It wasn't that way when STAR WARS first came out. It came out in May 1977, I finally got to see it in the following March (my first date!) and it was still running in the theaters. It was still in the cinemas until late 1979. It was revolutionary and historical in so many ways.

Of course this led to many sequels and lots of imitators. Problem is now - lightning doesn't always strike twice and Hollywood has gotten so lazy and they keep releasing such turgid garbage year after year.

George Lucas was lucky - he never made a picture in Hollywood, which he described as '100 used car dealers out to con you out of your money'. With his fame and fortune he never made a film in Hollywood and never had to.

George is very very very sorry now that he sold the rights to Disney. Disney is single handedly destroying the Star Wars canon with shallow and trite soap operas. Too bad. They also killed the excellent series Cone Wars the animated series that had six superb seasons under George. Disney turned it into a Aladin re make with a smart mouthed punk kid as the new hero.

sad times

This is all so depressing.
