It's a low-brow comedy, as advertised. Anyone expecting more is a fool. Enjoy the dumb movie, if you are so inclined.

It's not surprising that Asian audiences wouldn't like this film when it's geared towards an American audience. It's a low-brow comedy, using a lot of frat-boy humor. I enjoyed the movie, but if this type of movie isn't your thing it's not a problem. No one is ever going to say that this is one of the best comedies ever made.

It could very well be as bad as some of these Chinese and South Koreans have commented. That said, beware of people who have a bias against Japanese company Sony and Hollywood. I'll see it and decide for myself.

movie was dumb, funny in parts. I generally like seth rogen type comedies, too

If you are familiar with Korean culture, I think you’ll find it to be entertaining and worth watching. If you are not familiar with Korean culture and are looking for a great comedy – this probably isn't it. Caveat: if you like good sophomoric humor (Porky’s, American Pie, etc.) – you will probably enjoy this even if you know nothing about Korea.

Actually thought the actor that play Kim was pretty good! The profanity in the dialogue is ridiculous. What how many times the F word was spoken as well as sex related topics. Bring a movie like Shane back. LOL

" North Korea hadn't of hacked Sony, no one in the international community would have paid any attention to this movie."

Reality: It probably would have run for at best a few weeks in theaters. Can't say now whether it will ultimately be profitable, but this exposure and publicity was more than Sony was willing to pay for.

What baffles me is how many folks who viewed the film, legally or otherwise (including posters on this thread), are trying to give a Charles Isherwood treatment to a Seth Rogen film. It's a Seth Rogen film, for Pete's sake!

I mean, look at some of the criticisms:

“A lot of it is unrealistic and the people who play North Koreans are so bad at speaking Korean,”

That's because its a comedy. Moreover, films, by their very nature do tend to be, well, unrealistic, especially comedies about a CIA-sponsored assassination of a head of state made by a private studio casting, well, Seth Rogen.

“There is no drama and not much fun. It’s all about forced comedy that turns you off. Couldn’t they have done a better job making this movie?”

Did they miss the part about one of the lead roles being filled by Seth Rogen? And I'm certain the poor reception of the story's comedic flow has nothing whatsoever to do with the film being subtitled within hours of its release. Because we all know subtitling never fails to catch all of the culturally loaded nuances and references that make a film funny for its intended audience (i.e., not Chinese and Korean viewers).

American propaganda

Clevery concealed in a Seth Rogen film... Riiight... I'm reminded of Sigmund Freud's apocryphal statement, "a cigar is sometimes just a cigar.” In this case, a low-brow Seth Rogen film delivers just what one should reasonably expect.

@paulinusa: propaganda, yeah. Oh, and I believe it's impossible that your average people haven't any idea who Kim Jong Un is, at least for people who read or watch news, when you have the US government that reminds us how "dangerous" is North Korea (basically a puppet state) on a daily basis...Meh.

@Kobuta ChanDEC. 28, 2014 - 02:17AM JST Sony and other movie producers need to learn from "The Interview" saga. I don't understand why peoples at Sony allow to produce such as low grade film. I don't think Sony will get back its investment from "The Interview" even with huge publicity. Sony must sack those peoples who have allowed to make that kind of bad film.

You mean others will learn how to get free publicity stint?

SONY has been top old TV shows suppliers and it couldn't care less once in a while movie profit.

Ok, then # NORTH American #?

Alex: Entertaining or not, it's a spoof, satire, whatever you want to call it. Propaganda? I think making money was only motivation. Most Americans ( and maybe many around the world ) haven't any idea who Kim Jong Un is.

Wouldn't even waste my time to watch. Moveis are such a waste of time and money these days they should pay us watch most of them.

@Akex80 Only? Got to be a laugh in there somewhere as well!

So true, This movie would have faded fast without the issues. Many in the US panned the film too. But nooo, some anus wrinkle had to blow it up into a big stupid deal. How many Korean actors played in this film by the way?

"A lot of it is unrealistic and the people who play North Koreans are so bad at speaking Korean,” said a viewer on Naver, an online portal. “In the scene where Kim Jong Un gets mad…I couldn’t quite understand what he was saying.”

President Obama blamed N Korea as hacker.'

Seems N Korean hackers do not use Korean language if it tranclated English narrations in hurry.

In China, a copy of the movie with Chinese subtitles has been viewed at least 300,000 times on just one video sharing platform.

As opposed to other world governments who lavish praise on North Korea as model state?

North Korea isn't a model state, of course. And I don't know many world governments who think it is a model state. But how much it can be actually dangerous for the world? It's a weak country, not a super-power.

I enjoyed most of the comments above, but some of them made absolutely no sense in English.

Rogen's raspy voice can become quite annoying...Same roughness as many young Japanese boys. I wonder if that is a health issue.
