Dude, it's a sequel.
smithinjapan
“It is now 20 years later since the world has been rebuilt and it has tried to get prepared for a new attack; there is a new generation however, many of the old guard are back as well,”
Yeah, that's called a sequel. They are building off the story from the original, using "the aliens own technology", sport lines like, "This time it's a much bigger ship", etc. It's a sequel.
clueless
Does this new attack take place on Independence Day too?
If so...same title...same characters...same day as before...it's a sequel !
Gaijin Desi
ha ha this is the same movie (not even sequal) just retouch
Fox Sora Winters
That's called a sequel. Two Towers is a continuation of Fellowship of the Ring, and that's a sequel. Attack of the Clones is a continuation of Phantom Menace, and that's a sequel too. If you're continuing a story: guess what? It's a flippin' sequel! That's like saying "It's not ice, it's frozen water." Same thing, different wording.
wtfjapan

smithinjapan
And in any case, what's wrong with calling it a sequel?

Well, I enjoyed the first one so sounds like a movie I could watch.

He doesn't want to call it a sequel because nobody likes sequels (or remakes, and etc) anymore. There's a recent JT article about this. But it's a sequel alright, just without Will Smith. They can't afford him. You already know this movie will be bad.

"Roland Emmerich"
Oh, no...
"Bill Pullman"
Yes, Mr. President! Sir!

The definition of sequel, from Dictionary.com: "a literary work, movie, etc., that is complete in itself but continues the narrative of a preceding work."
Or, to quote the eternal bard, "What's in a name? That which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet." Romeo and Juliet "The lady doth protest too much, methinks." Hamlet

Man, those names bring be back to the 80s and 90s. For some reason I keep thinking about Dear John, The Fly and Spaceballs.
LostinNagoya
Independence Day had some of the worst dialogues ever. I pity Bill Pullman for that.

Yes, this film will be very different.
In this version, aliens are attacking Earth iand the same cast will be trying to stop them.
Daniel Neagari
May be is not a sequel because there is no Will Smith in it?....
I am trying to remember any memorable line of the movie... but there ain't any.
tictactogo
