Wait, this is a hiatus? I thought they were disbanding. This is all a ploy by Johnies to sell more Cds, DVDs, and concert tickets when they make their big comeback. I read recently that Namie Amuro is thinking of making a comeback after retiring just a few years ago with a huge retirement tour!

Good now they can free up a TV slot now that their "Arashi Vs." will be gone. They'll probably fill it in with another lame Johnnies or _ 48 infected show though.

All these “ retirements” are marketing ploys, particularly the Aumoro one. She will be back soon. Double whammies, extra sales on “ retirement “ extra sales also in come back.

Boy bands and pop tarts are such a joke industry. They have been plaguing the Western world since those stupid Spice Girls hit the scene in 1996. However, the late 80s have had their New Kids on the Block and other trash too.

Who truly likes this insipid garbage? I'm no music critic but I just can't take this 'pop' industry and these products seriously at all.

Give them a break. There’s room for this alongside what our more erm, ‘discerning’ posters regard as ‘proper’ music.

My wife is a top-drawer music snob and basically thinks all popular music is basically crap although she does have a bit of time for the Beatles and Bob Dylan, but she did sneer at Dylan’s keyboard skills when we saw him live.

Well before then. The Osmonds? The Chantels were around in the 50s. Couldn’t you describe The Supremes as a girl band? They are one of the most successful pop bands of all time. How about the Jackson 5 as a boy band? Michael Jackson was a boy.

Some have dated them back even much further than that.

Nothing new or anything to sneer about.

itsonlyrockandroll... They beat you to it. Their greatest hits album released this year was the worlds, yes the whole worlds best selling LP this year.

And for reasons unknown, they have a large fan base in Thailand, China and south east Asia.

Who are the buyers ?

I am forced to watched them by my family on NHK. It's fun, they are witty but...hey ...many girls and boys are all this.

They are just playing a role with no self character like puppets.

Only one of them is married. I don't even know if one of them has a kid. They are all reaching 40 ! Bad bad bad example.

The Jackson/s 5 had some of them play instruments and they all went on into solo careers, writing, etc. the Supremes were similar. None of them were a bunch of overchoreographed lip-synching Ken or Barbie dolls prancing to a drum machine that somebody else programmed.

The Osmonds, I barely remember them as a kid. Bubblegum ain't my thing. They were always too milquetoast and lillywhite for me. I'm from the world of glam/punk/new wave and evrything descended from there. I grew up in the 80s.

And for the record I didn't think Hanson was too bad myself. They sang, wrote, played evrything. Is that too much to ask from a band, no matter what age they may be?

ok I understand your hate and bashing over Pop but aren't one of your family member/relative/friends are into those music buying their stuff? And you're directly insulting the band & the agency when you should be making some good advice to the person you're close to who like those pop culture.

Btw, I'm Not a pop fan either saying these things, just into the world of psychedelic folk classic jazz rock genre.

There are those of us who ain't broken hearted, our dog hasn't ran off in someone else's chevy, the world is ok looking at it from certain angles, and we just wanna feel the beat!

Oh and we don't critique music, we just feel it. Not that I'm an Arashi fan mind...and I dig Johnny Cash too.

At least they're not calling it "quitting" like they usually do; HUGE deal in the media about a band or artist quitting and then there's another concert within a year, or a new album within two. So, they're just calling it a "hiatus", which is more apt.

And the companies like Johnny's are LOVING Corona! They were hurting for a very short time, but now they are paying next to ZERO in rental fees for concert venues, and they sell "tickets" to these online concerts, which are pre-recorded, to about 100 times the number of people at almost the same price (and then another extra fee to be able to see it again). A female friend of mine was complaining because she bought a special "pen-light" for the concert (I laughed when I imagined all the people sitting alone in front of their computers waving pen-lights no one can see) and it won't arrive until the end of January because so many people ordered them for the concert.

The ploys for comebacks do sound likely. At the same time, the Arashi leader has said (and it shows when we see him on TV) he's 38 and tired of the schedule, etc.; it's wearing him down. We enjoy the Arashi Vs show, though we could do without all the banal kidding around. ~sigh~.

Ref. boy or girl groups. Some, in Japan and worldwide, have been successful. Most, however, are talent-l-e-s-s dress uppers who wouldn't rate even one bong on the Nodojima show. Most cause me to gag.

Intelligent lyrics with awful music makes for 'artsy-fartsy'. Good music with silly/dumb lyrics makes for dumb fun and I'm into that. Chick-a-boom, chick-a-boom, doncha jes luv it with your Love Removal Machine? But stupid cookie-cutter musical constructs with insipid pedestrian lyrics done by hairstyles parading as brains, dancing to a drum machine badly programmed is just plain garbage. 'I'm Too Sexy' for that rubbish, and I just referred to a dumb but catchy song right here!
