And I'm Too Sexy for the latest Fad of The Week anyway.

Lol!

I think you might enjoy listening to BBC 6 Music. A healthy mix of classic tunes and contemporary. Iggy Pop and Huey Morgan have shows at the weekend.

Who the hell even wants to remember the garbage like Spice Girls, Britney Spears, N'SYNC, Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Creed, Aqua, Macarena, neo-'swing', etc. yet the 90s are remembered best by albums by U2, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Oasis, REM, etc.

All disposable pop.

And all have their own merits.

Some people try too hard with their rock credentials.

I'll happily listen to Britney and Beefheart. Dion and Dio. And so on.

Moving 10 zillion units doesn't mean you're good.

Recently I saw the band Dinosaur Jr. They were part of the original wave of grunge/alternative rock bands and they have soldiered on as if none of the tragic musical fallouts ever happened. They keep on releasing CDs and if anything, they are better now than ever! Going in and out of style, but guaranteed to raise a smile. Same for other acts I've seen in the past few years incl. Phil Collins, ZZ Top, Cheap Trick and many others.

And the Talking Heads will always be cool no matter how many records they sold.

Same as it ever was.

Despite living in Japan their entire career, I still can't recall a single Arashi song. That's two less than Piko Taro (the second one was terrible, but in a memorable way), two less than AKB, two less than Morning Musume, and two less than the bloke just arrested for a bit of speed and some poppers.

This is the state of music today. What went wrong...

Nothing.

There's always been disposable popular music.

All bands want to shift units. And all bands attract a multitude of adoring fans and music snobs.

Same as it ever was.

Just waiting for them to say Arashi is the next best thing since the Beatles.

This is the state of music today. What went wrong...?

Nothing. For Arashi and Taylor Swift. This is further proof of what we suspected for a long time. The entertainment industry produces product for consumers - not art for an audience. In fact if you saw the Grammys or Oscars this year you would see that the industry in fact hates its consumers. But hey, they keep coming back and emptying their parents wallets.

What a joke. They can't even sing!

To those who are not able to comprehend the article:

The ranking is based on sales of **physical and digital albums**.

Right as I said, a lot of twisting yo get to the point that Arashi is #1.

Taylor Swift has more CD sales, downloads and streaming.

If you remove one, then yes that makes Arashi #1. But why not include all forms instead of ignoring one important component of sales. Just to justify they are top.

The fact that some delusional BTS fans are arguing in twitter because the fact their favourire kpop group just number three below Arashi and Taylor Swift amuses me. They keep coming up with different numbers and acting like the whole system is against them smh...

Streaming includes Youtube etc which can be wildly innacurate with easily inflated figures using paid Youtube view services. To include streaming means whoever pays the most for inflated view counts wins.

The biggest music streaming services aren't in Youtube. It's Spotify followed by Apple Music

That is a lot of twisting facts to make it seem like Arashi is number one! Sure more Japanese bought a 40 year old audio format, but then again, the rest of the world downloads. But let's forget about that and just focus on what makes the Japanese group number 1! Silly and childish.

How many purchased by non-Japanese?
