While the rest of the world is socially distancing, including actors, ...............

Not really, media reports are suggesting that certain elements of a major country are not socially distancing.

Well said Mr. Kipling.

I've already had 2 tests, not because I have been ill at all, but because our company organised it for all. There are 'some' people here who just can't accept the (albeit, maybe poor) that things have been handled here by the Government. Even though nothing has changed since the very start of this all - I do find their hysterical whingeing quite amusing now. Very easy to push their buttons. Personally, I just wear a mask, practice good hygiene and try not to worry too much anymore. This virus ain't going nowhere.

Maybe, just maybe celebrities are spending a lot of their time greeting and meeting? Wining and dining? Close contact in groups? And maybe their names are published in articles like this one? How many of the 27,000 Tokyo residents to have had the virus were celebrities?

Of course there are many unknown and unreported cases, especially those without symptoms, but there isn't a huge number of serious case being hidden. So lets stop the conspiracy nonsense. Anyone with symptoms can fairly easily get a test done.

So, now Ms Hirose has to stay home for 2 weeks?

Why is this news? Virtually 100% of the people in her age group suffer symptoms no worse than a mild cold.

How did she get a test without symptoms?

Just the other evening there was a commercial on TV, a clinic advertising testing to anyone wiling to pay. I can't remember the details (only had one eye on the telly), but there were two types, one priced at ¥15,000 and the other at ¥22,000. (I think).

Because she was tested with PCR, there's also the significant possibility that the test picked up fragments of dead virus. Recent research has discovered that dead virus fragments can result in a positive test result even 90 days after the initial infection, and a person who is currently contagious is only shedding live virus for up to about 10 days from initial exposure.

@kurisupisu

How did she get a test without symptoms?

Amazing Japan!

It does not say she got tested for free, for a company (or sport team, etc.) Paying for regular testing of their personnel with a private laboratory is not even that much.

I know!

But she is probably filming something or other and they're testing everyone on the set.

The worst thing that could possibly happen in Japan is that a celebrity is unavailable to appear in TV drama/film a commercial/appear on a variety show/tweet something ignorant/get caught having an affair.

So testing them is a matter for national security.

That said, I wish her well and am sure she'll be fine given her age.

While the rest of the world is socially distancing, including actors, it's business as usual in Japan. I'm not surprised at the results.

I hope she makes full recovery.

"We feel sorry to have caused anxiety among relevant workers, costars and fans,"

Only in Japan do people feel the need to apologise for getting sick. It's not like she knew she was unwell and had a joyride in the back of a hermetically sealed vehicle with others.

Why don't you say exactly say what you want to Aly? Instead of going around it suggesting that there is some sort of conspiracy?

where did I say that? go head show me. I dare you.

We all know that the testing is being kept to an absolute minimum by the Health Authorities. This is not new news or anything we haven't known since March /April now.

Fine. good. we are in total agreement. NOW since you have admitted to knowing THAT, please don't tout the numbers provided as proof that japan has beaten the virus as has been suggested by some

If you read the article then you will see that the the entire crew had PCR tests, which would lead you to believe that they were privately contracted tests. She had no symptoms.

So what?

Aly, the virus is EVERYWHERE. it's pointless making snide comments about it any longer and the attitude of the Government towards it.

That's exactly my point!! pretending that we are doing fine is not helpful and neither is accusing those who question the gov stats of being Japan bashers. We live here too you know. So do our children, our spouses, friends..

With 500 cases nationwide a day, having so many celebrities/sports players infected only shows that the virus is around way more than what the official numbers show.

No need to have a degree in statistics to reach this conclusion.

They have access to testing, that is why they are positive. Should the testing be more accessible to the common citizen and tens of thousands of cases a week would be discovered.

Of course many will still want to believe that the official numbers are real and that we are special in Japan.

My entire company was tested too. Private basis.

"YET we hear A LOT about celebrities being infected...hmmm"

Because they are celebrities. UHHHHH

She's 22. She'll probably recover fine. Good luck to her.

Here's to hoping you pull through with a speedy recovery, Hirose-san.

Have they started the contact tracing?
