@Yubaru "Ultraman" (ウルトラマン) was shown in the US in the 1960s.

Sounds fun!
You guys didn't get Battle of the Planets, then? I remember Casey Kasem on voice duties for one of the characters...

I really enjoyed the feature film. But I think as a story it works better in Japanese culture.

Americans don't use trains, or walk for that matter.
Any journey over 50 metres has to be by car.
It's in the constitution.

They're thinking of making a musical out of this? I can imagine the nerdy angst-ridden protagonist singing his undying love for said heartthrob. On a separate point, I recall the Japanese title for the American movie Napoleon Dynamite as バス男. Weird.
Ah_so
'Monkey' was released in America. Other than anime, it is the only Japanese TV series to be shown around the world.

I can't see how Densha Otoko would translate into American context.
The best Japanese drama to be remade in the US is Doctor X.
After all, The Good Doctor took off in the US.

Agreed, this was a sweet movie. Really liked it.

Watched the original drama because I was a fan of the girl. The guy just annoyed the heck out of me, so I stopped watching after two episodes.

@Ah_so: America isn't the world. Italy imported tons of Japanese tv series like "Megaloman".
Plus, I don't get it.
The U.S. made also Power Rangers, that was originally a Japanese tv show.

Wasn't interested until reading that last line. What a great show.

In the Japanese version the nerdy young man asks for dating advice on 2ch anonymous forum.
Will the US version be 4chan?

The US version of Death Note was adapted from Japan and The Hunger Games series was "inspired" by the Japanese movie Battle Royale.

US remakes of foreign series are almost universally cr*p.
Yubaru
Only took 50 years for a Japanese program to find it's way to America and probably be another 50 before it happens again!
