Judas Priest vocalist Rob Halford joins BABYMETAL onstage for epic performance

The heavy metal world has never seen anything like BABYMETAL before, so there are bound to be more and more unique situations that you’d never think was possible as the band continues its meteoric rise. Like, how about BABYMETAL performing Judas Priest covers with Rob Halford, Judas Priest’s own legendary vocalist?

At the Journeys Alternative Press Music Awards, Fueled by Monster Energy Drink, attendees were treated to a performance that would have been unthinkable five years ago. A Metal God and Japanese school girls shredding some Judas Priest? It just has to be seen and heard to believe it.

Covering two classic Judas Priest songs, the band is joined by leather-clad Rob Halford as he and lead singer Su-metal belt their way through “Painkiller” before Yuimetal and Moametal joined them with guitars to perform “Breaking the Law”. While the performance of “Painkiller” was a little rough around the edges, we still enjoyed it and we also have to say we thought they did a great job with “Breaking the Law”.

Both parties seemed really enthusiastic about the performance and Halford himself said, “They’re leading the charge into a new frontier of heavy metal.”

After this performance with such a heavy metal icon, we can’t wait to see who else BABYMETAL will work with in the future. We just hope whoever that is can keep up with the high-energy, intense dynamism that BABYMETAL brings to the stage.

Oh come come, let's not be coy....

Once Upon a Time, Babymetal's Members Admit They Were 'Afraid' of Metal.....

http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/rock/7356870/babymetal-afraid-metal-resistance-interview

Amuse saw a gap in the market and took advantage to take benefit and make capital, that's prevalent to Amuse stakeholders .

And there's the pinch, artistes like Taylor Swift from day one were able to capitalise, by forming the own independent management company. As the offspring of a father, Scott a SVP at Merrill Lynch, could you see Swift giving a seconds thought to a company like Amuse or for that matter AKS Co Ltd (AKB48), that would insist on a wage structure that would deny 85% of potential revenue streams.

However that opportunity, at present been denied and without doubt continue without restructuring of contractual law the fact is the hapless Idol fraternity is totally at the financial wimp of a media industry controlled by the belief that the few is inherently deserving of, no demanding that there will prevails.

I want to see Moa, Yui and Su realize there true value... A genuine slice of the financial cake for their future.

Yep, the guitarist is from goth alt rock act Yousei Teikoku. He's pretty talented, and is totally doing this just for the money.

Yeah, but he plays most of his stuff in dropped C or C# tuning. Whereas traditional metal is standard or dropped half-step tuning. Yousei is pretty friggn' talented thought -I'll gibe Babymetal that.

I think people need to chill out in regards to Baby Metal. They are harmless and a lot heavier than some music that I've listened to that is passed off as Metal... whatever Metal means. Anyway, the image first then the music will follow. Seems like that they have got the image down pat...perhaps.

Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-metal), Yui Mizuno (Yui - metal), and Moa Kikuchi (Moa - Metal) are a fusion or abstractly confusion of two distinctly different concepts/genres.

My altitude , thoughts, opinion run along these lines, where do Moa, Yui and Su see their careers, ambitions, achievements progressing a decade from now, beyond the realms of the fox god?. Who is actively responsible for their education? After all scream and dance does not exactly stand out as a game change skill on a CV.

Amuse is another business entity that pursues a carousel method of employment across every facet of the entertainment and media industry in Japan. A model that is arguably suffocating creatively and lacks transparency as to the independence of the artists management.

When all the excitement, glister finally ends who is ultimately looking after the interests of Su, Moa and Yui?

I guess I possess a suspicious shrewd awareness that life's opportunities come at a price.

Great comment!

@Wc626

Totally agree with you.

On the other hand Babymetal's drummer & guitarist aren't too shabby. Ditch the make-up, masks and 3 lolitas. . . . then they'll be a metal band.

True metal fans cannot accept Babymetal cause it's not real "metal." Just 3 lolitas making some bucks. They cannot even play an instrument. They dance. There's NO dancing in metal, only moshing.

Rob Halford has a neck thicker than Rudyard Kipling's Colonel Hathi jungle patrol.

ChaosWyvern is jarringly frank, but negative no, well let's review for arguments sake and settle on a less subjective nature of Jpop. * "Babymetal is the ultimate corporate music act".....lets carefully break this down to the component function of the Amuse business model (Babymetals agency management company) and the ability to shift, finance cross trade, to quantify revenue across operations and turn a profit.

This is achievable, Amuse business model allows a complex financial interplay between established acts, Perfume, Porno Graffitti , White Ash, Flumpool, Southern all Stars etc , and private sector funding that can execute a two deals policy. No performer will ever reach even twenty percent of their revenue stream, which will have a negative earnings potential.

Let's not be coy the complexity of contract law in Japan is well documented and is biased to a chosen few established within the entertainment industry.

Maybe I am being more than a tad disingenuous, having no musical ability and a tad plain I don't have the infectious optimistic assessment

Being good at doing a performance and actually being good at doing metal are completely different things. And while nobody denies BM can provide a good show for those interested into that sort of thing, for somebody serious about metal it is simply a sort of aberration that can be interpreted simply as a commercial compromize. Metal folks like them just like they can enjoy going at a magic show, or at a zoo watching exotic animals... nice chicks shaking legs. It doesn't mean they are metal. They are a commercial operation speculating on something already successful. Judas Priest also are a busines machine by now more than a metal act. Exactly like BM... that is why the go together. Most of their fan follow them for what they did in the past more than for what they are doing currently... I found rather insulting watching Priest live at Pacifico Yokohama sitting in a thather chair, like at the opera, not being allowed to move and do nothing. AC/DC have a track titled "What do you do honey for money...". That is the feeling...

I guess us older metalheads are more open minded. :)

If by "open-minded" you mean you love idol pop, well great, more power to you. I'm not a fan of studio-produced, sugary pop music, is all. I see that as the opposite of what metal is about. If that makes me close-minded, I'm guilty as charged, I guess. For me, baby"metal" is just the same as AKB, the only difference being AKB doesn't claim to be metal.

This guy says it better than I could: "Babymetal is the ultimate corporate music act" - and he sees metal as silly in general so he's less biased than me :)

well, Chaoswyvern, I've been into hard rock and metal since the latye 70's, and I think BABYMETAL are awesome, a refreshing addition to the metal scene. So I guess I blow a hole in your theory about the only person enjoying BABYMETAL have no idea about metal. And of you think bands that have been around for 30+ years are being taken advantage of by BABYMETAL's crew you're nuts. I guess us older metalheads are more open minded. :)

The performance with Halford was great btw,and you can tell from the performance the girls have an appreciation for the genre they are in. Love it! If it's new and done well, I'm in!

satin maybe... not satan for sure.. probably something about butterflies and gucci.. honestly, its all marketing.. he was paid handsomely to support em, and needed that too

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Oh, no! Does this mean that, if you play Baby Metal songs backwards you will hear messages from satin?

ChaosWyvern: And for everyone who thinks this is good because it will bring more mainstream people into metal: nah, we're fine, thanks. Idol fanboys we can do without!

Criticism is not a bad thing. But change isn't either. BabyMetal will either flameout or they won't. I think they are fresh and entertaining. There will always be the traditional niche strains in metal. No need to worry about.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I say let them enjoy whatever music they like, be they Babymetal, Taylor Swift or Justin Beiber. As long as they don't act like nuisance on people, it's fine. Babymetal's not innovation but gateway to new metal fans perhaps, eventually they will come to know about thrash or death or progressive metal if they are open enough to new music.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I love this! Without innovation, Metal (like all things) will grow stagnate and die.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

Readers, there is no need to post negative comments on this thread. It only reflects poorly on yourselves.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What a lot of people don't understand is that most metallers, contrary to the stereotypes, are actually pretty nice guys. All the real bands supporting baby"metal" think they're being friendly and funny. They don't realize that the studio is cynically taking advantage of them to try and legitimate its ridiculous idol project.

I think the only way someone could enjoy baby"metal" is if they have no idea what metal is about, thematically or artistically. So mainstream music fans, basically.

And for everyone who thinks this is good because it will bring more mainstream people into metal: nah, we're fine, thanks. Idol fanboys we can do without!

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

We don't like this though. We think it's mindless twizzle. That's our final judgement.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

I saw this on YouTube yesterday. Rob Halford is a legend and all class. I hope that other bloke (can't remember his name) who was interrupting their acceptance speech recently was watching.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

“They’re leading the charge into a new frontier of heavy metal.”

Did they slip something into Halford's Monster Energy Drink? Like a few fivers?

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Baby Metal Rock!!
