K-pop group 2PM apologizes for copying and pasting Japanese fans

Japan and Korea have never had an easygoing relationship. So it’s little surprise that Japanese netizens were up in arms when the photo at left appeared online. Taken at Tokyo Dome during a concert by hot Korean boy band 2PM (which has a related group called 2AM), it shows an enormous audience packed with enthusiastic K-pop fans on their feet, hands in the air, giving it up for the handsome lads.

But looking closely, it’s obvious that some of these fans aren’t genuine. In fact, they’re crudely implemented digital reproductions. So how and why did this happen?

2PM’s management, JYP Entertainment, came out with a formal apology after fans pointed out the mistake. JYP claimed it was the fault of an outside company colour-correcting the photos as they were rushed out to media outlets in their press release. But here’s what some Twitter users in Japan had to say:

-- “This is like one of those photoshopped North Korean propaganda photos.” -- “Yeah, I’m not surprised.” -- “Nobody does a forgery like Korea.” -- “Wow, that’s Korea for you.” -- “So, obviously it wasn’t a sold-out show.” -- “So they’re not going to release the real photo?” -- “I bet they didn’t think they would get found out.” -- “These must be a few sets of really freaky twins.” -- “It looks like even the audience seating is getting some photo-generated plastic surgery.”

Take a close look at the two highlighted areas, if what JYP claimed was true, then tell me why color-correcting alone erases the woman standing next to the rather well endowed woman standing next to her?

Color correction? Ok whatever, but I suppose if you tell a lie enough times people here believe it's true.

What else to expect from the Korean government-subsidized so-called 'Korean wave'? No surprise here.

It wasn't a "mistake".

JYP claimed it was the fault of an outside company colour-correcting the photos as they were rushed out to media outlets in their press release.

I work with photoshop a LOT. Nobody is dumb enough to confuse changing levels etc., with the clone tool. It's like confusing a corkscrew with a toaster.

Horribly amateur photoshopping job. You could just take crowd shots from other photos and put them in. At least that wouldn't stand out the way this does.

Have they learned their Photoshop skills in North Korea?

That picture isn't phoshopped! Thats the related fans for the related group 2AM! LoL!

So where's the original photo?

I'm just interested in seeing the face of the "well endowed" woman!

If you look closely at the audience members with your eyes crossed and slowly move back from your monitor and allow your eyes to re-focus whilst cross-eyed you'll see them in the 3D.

lol.

"Yeah, I'm not surprised."

Is anyone surprised that no one is surprised?

Ha! This is pretty funny. We do this all the time of course in the entertainment industry, but to be this sloppy is really bad.

One trick we often use (one particular vocaloid talent especially) is to put mirrors on the walls and shoot from low angles. A crowd of 100 will look like a few thousand in a dark room with fast moving cameras.

Everyone is right here. good comments! But that is what you get by listening to pop "music". The lowest genre out there and it sells well. I'll never understand that. Having Jazz, blues, classic, rock, metal, death metal. grindcore, country, opera, etc... young cats go for pop. Why do the japanese need to import pop? They have ENOUGH crappy "music" here. Just turn on the TV on friday, watch the rankings and "music station" with tamori. Your ears will bleed.

Don't kinda get what you implied. The music you heard from AKB is not Pop, it's just included in J-pop for easy categorization. It can be described as "idol music", same as majority of K-pop craps. Japan also has greate R&B, Soul artists. You should definitely check them out before bashing Japanese music in general.

And the trolling above is expected from person listening to K-pop and C-pop every day, no doubt.

Everything is photoshopped these days, especially in the entertainment industry. Everywhere. I wonder what would happen if a worldwide ban on Photoshop was imposed for, say, 6 months?

what's the problem here, everyone got paid.

I didnt! I demand payment. Well just show me her face!

Is it really an "apology" if you immediately blame an outside company?

"We're sorry we don't have a review process for work done by contractors..." is what it sounds like to me!

Why are people surprised that Asian's are good at coping a good thing

What a lousy job in photoshopping..

But I would guess that if this band needed to copy fans, they are as crappier as the technician doing the photoshop...

No surprise here in the same industry that hired people to keep clicking Kara's YouTube video to make it look like hundreds of millions of people are into Kara and that K-Pop is taking over the World.

photo looks done well to me, surprised someone spotted it.

Haha, those Twitter comments are pretty hilarious!

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

The band and promoters had nothing to do with it, its those phones they used to take the photos with, they just copy everything. LOL

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

A manufactured band gets a manufactured audience....what's the problem here, everyone got paid.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Probably all parts of the photo are of a different crowd at a different concert.

So it’s little surprise that Japanese netizens were up in arms

Wow, I wish I could have seen that! It must have been something. 3 or 5 himajin hiding behind a keyboard & shaking their fists?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

that is funny glad someone saw it.
