So they get some more publicity in exchange for uttering some platitudes that won’t convince anyone new.
Exactly. Then why you at the UN?
Alex
UN has nothing else to do? What's next, a rap battle among the ambassadors?
Kaerimashita
The slide of the seriousness of politics and world diplomacy continues. Which is why we are in such a mess
Tom San
BTS? No wonder the U.N. isn't taken seriously.

They will be on this thread shortly to faithfully defend their cult idols.
Easy, self-serving "activism".
BTS's politics is as vacuous as their overproduced, auto-tune music.
Jacko
We have come to a point in society in which popular boy bands are granted permission to speak in the UN, and who is supposed to be listening to them? Fangirls and fanboys of these bands? Laughable.
Kuruki
They're using their popularity and influence to spread awareness and cause to demographics that would otherwise not care about what the UN does.
They're doing something for the good yet we have commenters here who will trash talk this group.
Haters gonna hate.

Remember when a BTS member has caused a controversy in Japan after wearing a shirt depicting am atomic bomb? A really bad choice, I'd say.
Strangerland
Sounds like you want the culture to have him canceled. Or were you bringing that up for some other reason?
Hello there
Bts to the rescue. We can all rest easy now everyone!

Does BTS themselves follow what they just said? Don't think so. Is it a publicity stunt? Well they shot a music video so definitely ya. But even if its hypocritical for them to preach all that, their fans follow what they say. Better than the Paul brothers who teach their fanbase to be a nuisance to society.
Also if some countries who have no right to sit at the UN can participate, so can BTS.

RM sounds like a deep thinker. Given the poor effort made by the UN bureaucrats, maybe these young whizzkids can do a better job through the medium of song and dance?
Iron Lad
Lame ducks the UN.
BTS, seriously? They are getting banned in China.

The UN was founded in 1945. Less than ten years later Danny Kaye was the first Goodwill Ambassador in 1954.
The UN has consistently used celebrities for their global reach. Jackie Chan, Lionel Messi, Audrey Hepburn, Roger Federer.
BTS happen to be one of, if not the, biggest selling pop artists currently. If you don't understand then you are just showing your age.
Robert N
The UN needs global reach? Isn't that kind of its core thing? Do BTS fans really care about the UN?
Kumagaijin
Maybe they can convince the Taliban to allow music in public or something related to their own countries problems with N Korea.
Skeptical
There were some truly amazing, unbelieveable boy performances today at the UNGA.
Also, K-pop band BTS appeared.
