Keisuke Kuwata to kick off national tour in Miyagi

Southern All Stars frontman Keisuke Kuwata, 56, is going to embark on a national tour from Miyagi Prefecture on Sept 15. It has been five years since Kuwata toured nationwide.

Kuwata canceled a scheduled nationwide in 2010 to undergo surgery for cancer of the esophagus. After the operation, he made a triumphant comeback on NHK’s New Year’s Eve program “Kohaku Uta Gassen” on Dec 31, 2010, and last year, released a solo album which rocketed to the top of Japan’s Oricon album chart.

Kuwata said he has been continuing rehabilitation and that he wanted to celebrate his recovery on the stage.

The tour will start with two concerts in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, on Sept 15 and 16, followed by 22 more performances in 10 cities until New Year’s Eve. Promoters said they expect about 200,000 fans to attend the concerts.

Kuwata said he chose Miyagi as the starting point to show his support for victims of the March 11 disaster. He said he felt helpless to do anything last year but now wants to cheer up fans in Tohoku with his music, and also help with volunteer activities.

A friend of mine is a fan - she says the best concert she ever went to was one from the last tour he did. I mailed her to tell her he's going on tour again, and she was very pleased. I hope the guy is fully recovered.

Really encouraging after such a severe illness - good luck and hope the tour goes well! there is no doubt that despite his own situation, his heart is in the right place - deep respect.

IMHO, his "MUSICMAN" album is excellent - I'm listening to it frequently with great pleasure.

Wonder if he'll play "Tsunami". One of his better songs.
