In July we wrote that "Kiki’s Delivery Service," that is best known as the anime movie produced by Studio Ghibli, will be made into a live-action movie. This movie's release is now planned for March 2014.
As a promotional campaign, filmmakers arranged a tie-up with Demae-kan (the first comprehensive Japanese meal delivery site) and just started accepting applicants for their fun project.
Only organizations like schools, after-school care schools and sports clubs can apply for the prize. The luckiest group will have a chance to receive meal delivery service in person by Kiki (Fuka Koshiba acting as Kiki). She can deliver meals for a maximum of 20 people.
Many of you must remember the herring and pumpkin pot pie that Kiki barely delivered to a birthday girl from the Ghibli version of the animation movie. I think a lot of people had the desire to eat that hot pie, just like I did. Now, that scene will come true for children from this lucky group and they will never forget that they received a meal delivery from a little pretty witch.

The problem I have with this is not concerning the source material, but just the over-acting in general. This movie, like the countless live-action adaptations of books, comics, etc. before it, rests its laurels on the source material alone and uses the same "acting-style" that is used nowadays in dramas and what-not. There is no subtlety. It's all hamfisted. On top of that, the special effects look half-assed.

I was hoping to hear Yuming's "Rouge Message" on the trailer, but alas no, just a generic song. I hope it works, but I'm not so sure it will.
I like the idea of the actress delivering lunches to a group of winners... that could be a giggle.

@ Mirai - Am I high? Let me think - No. What does it matter to me what the world thinks? There are better stories out there than those produced by Studio Ghibli. Personally I just don't find it interesting. Frankly, I don't understand why people find it great either. I find it on the same level as something Disney makes.

Ghibli movies should remain anime, no live-action movie is going to top it, they wont even come close to the Ghibli magic from the original movies.

Look at the trailer. Looks like the same damn story to me.. except now you've got a high school aged girl playing what should be a 10 year old Kiki. Also, look at the clothes and the scenery. This is clearly based on the anime not the novel.
Are you high? Miyazaki's animations are world class. They have won tons of awards including the Academy awards. If this isn't great, I don't know what is.

The Ghibli anime and the live-action movie are both based on the Kiki novels. The Ghibli anime is based on the first volume, while the live-action movie is based on later volumes when Kiki is older.

Where is the cat?! Where is Gigi!? It had very important role in the anime! Was it that hard to get some trained cat and to make it talk and act using CG?

No, Studio Ghibli anime aren't all that great in the first place...Though yes, there are two things that ruin an anime:
Foreign Dub (Unless it's English Dubbed Final Fantasy games, 99.9% of the time Foreign dub is crap) Live action adaptations (MOST of the time. I can't say for sure) And anime itself can ruin the original work if it isn't an original anime.Source: Me <Enjoys good stories

Awful...Why mess with perfection? There is no way this is going to come close to the anime. Its an insult to Hayao Miyazaki and his ingenious work.
BTW...this is a grown woman playing the role of Kiki. I thought Kiki was like a 12 year old. You've got it all wrong already.
