Kimutaku, Kou Shibasaki to star in android drama

SMAP singer Takuya Kimura, 40, better known as Kimutaku, and actress Kou Shibasaki, 32, will star in the new TBS Sunday night drama "Android~A.I. knows LOVE?" In the series, which starts in October, Kimutaku plays two characters -- an android sent from the future and a genius physicist.

The story is about a love that transcends time and space, TBS reported.

Shibasaki plays Asahi Ando whose life is threatened by an unidentified person after her physicist fiance (Kimura) is killed. One day, a mysterious man who calls himself Roid and looks just like Ando's fiance, appears from her desk drawer. Roid tells her that he has come from the future to protect her. Roid and Asahi start living together and gradually fall in love.

"I am looking forward to playing this character. I am very curious about how an android from the future would fit in today's society," Kimura said at a news conference.

Kimutaku and Shibasaki are reuniting for the first time since "Good Luck!" which achieved the highest viewer rating in 2003.

An android, sent from the future? To protect Ando? Appears from the drawer ? Does he have a pocket on his belly from which he takes out various strange tools? Is he blue?

Seriously, we need to see this, especially my kids. I can hear them shout "Dora...ugh??"

A 40 year old android? Better than a 40 year pop singer maybe.....

Two Kimutaku's for the price of one. This drama's ratings will go through the roof.

I always look forward to anything with Shibasaki Kou. Great actress. Absolutely loved her in Battle Royale and in the Galileo series.

Will her face be CG'd like the Disney Mobile commercial though? They made her look pretty cute there.

I don't find him like an excellent actor, but I have seen him, he fares well. The story doesn't look very original, and I'm inclined to think it as a comedy than something more dramatic..

good luck though...

I sense the usual superiority complex many foreigners have towards any Jーtv or pop culture in the smug tone of some on this forum. I have enjoyed the drama and think the naysayers probably have not even given this drama a chance. Their loss; it has been very good. I take issue with the article calling Kimura's character Roid from the start. Ando names him, and at one point later he is referred to as Lloyd.
