Legendary rock band Kiss have canceled their upcoming tour of Japan. It was to be their 10th tour of Japan and their first in four years. Udo, the tour organizer, said that the delay is due to a conflict in the band's schedule, that ticket sales have also been halted and that no new tour dates are to be announced.
The band made their debut in 1974 and in 2009, they released "Sonic Boom," their first studio album of original material in 11 years. The album went into the Billboard chart at No. 2 and the band's world tour tickets have been selling out. The Japanese leg of the tour was scheduled to begin on April 13,comprising seven shows in six cities.

Kiss may not be in a mainstream to make a profit for Japanese organizers. Japanese fans may be interested in something fresh and sophisticated these days. a New mixed genre of metal rock plus J-pop can hit a road. I want to join in such project, it sounds great for commercial and entertaining. Spring of love and something imaginary romantic image can win Japanese fans in live concert tours.
stevecpfc
Yeah J Pop is the height of sophistication, well respected worldwide as well.

How old is the average KISS concert goer I wonder?
bobcatfish
asian-kun. If Cyndi Lauper and Christopher Cross can turn a profit every year in Japan, then I 'm pretty sure KISS can, too. Japan doesn't want anything new. It wants the same old same old - just ask Tamori

"schedule conflict" is code for "non one bought any tickets".
MrDog
I really wish I could understand what you are trying to say, but
made me actually laugh out loud.
Almost certainly this is the reason. No-one cares about Kiss anymore (did anyone before?)

Read an article years ago about how Japanese music fans still idolize bands and musicians from America and England long after they've lost their popularity. One example was Chuck Berry(who is in his 80's). So while Kiss might have a Japanese following, management might have contracted too many concerts and venues.

Kiss can collaborate with AKB48 and Exile. Japanese hearts will melt in spring love of dancing imaginary anime soul world.
Darren White
Yeah, cutting-edge music like Mr Big, right ?
Gurukun
They should do a concert in Akibahara. Cos-play mania!
cactusJack
I feel sorry for the ladies in Japan. I am sure Gene Simmon's tongue will surely be missed.

I'd like to see a Jimmy Page/Robert Plant/John Paul Jones trio team up with Kinki Kids. Or Slipknot and AKB48. Those combos would definitely hit a road.
Gurukun
LOL! Nice one. But, I bet all the girls for AKB48 wouldn't get close to those guys. I can see it now..."Kowaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii"
nath
I like KISS, Slipknot AND AKB so I certainly would go to that! Especially if it was in Akihabara.
Japanese want something sophisticated?? Allow me to wipe the coffee that just shot out my nose off the collar of my shirt...
Zenny11
Pity wanted to take my son to see them.
He has been to Bon Jovi and the Eagles(last weekend). Enjoyed both concerts.
haruka
If they wear maid outfits they would surely make hit here!

Did you know the the pre-sale tickets where all sold out in 3 days for all 4 shows in the Kanto area? That's 40,000 pre-sale tickets! So yeah, no one was buying tickets.
My guess is that the venues where too small.

I grew up with KISS and I'm in my late 40s, soon to be a senior citizen :-)
taj
I'm in my early 40's and KISS was what my babysitters listened to. I'd still love to go to their concert for a laugh.

Schedule conflict? In a world with so many electronic time managers, computer-based schedulers and on-line calendars, it's hard to believe..
BurakuminDes
Theyre all 1000 years old.

How popular is KISS in Japan? I just remember the digital camera tv commercials in 2005 featuring kids with they faces painted as the kiss members and singing I Was Made for Loving You with the lyric modified... I just was freezed to see this daily on TV...
tinkerbell63
they probably didnt sell enough tickets
combinibento
Well I guess they Got to Choose which events to play. It's not always as Easy As It Seems. Fans here probably had Great Expectations of seeing them live, but will have to suffer the Sweet Pain and search out other Thrills in the Night. Oh well, their shows are Not for the Innocent; they are known to Dance All Over Your Face.
LoneWolfwfk
Good one combinibento! As a KISS Army member since 1977, gotta love the references. Well done.
The cancellation isn't just for the Japan leg of the tour. It may soon be growing due to "professional differences" among band members. The only members that remotely get along are Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley.
Slipnot and AKB48...hmmmm...that WOULD be interesting! How about Enslaved and KARA (I like the way they move their hips)?

Kiss are legend, must be something quite serious for them to cancel the japan leg of their tour where they usually sell out. Perhaps they picked up more summer Europe dates? All the big festivals are on the continent these days Japan might not be such a big pull for them anymore.
USNinJapan2
Wow, they're still alive?
Sarge
And kickin'!
Raja Kumar
Guess ,No kisses from Kiss . Japan will survive.
Sarge
Yumiko Shaku must be disappointed that Gene Simmons isn't coming to give her another kiss!

KISS will kiss Japan soon. The organizer wants to sell more tickets and other special packages at high marginal revenues. Please wait, KISS is coming in the Fall. You can check at its website for updated news.

you can blame managment for the mess up. im a huge fan also & Like them. They need to Stop touring so much thats why the last CD was such a delay they just kept going out on Tour. @taj, if you don't like them WHY would you go? Once YOU become a member of a band that has written many Great songs & have been around for over 35 Years THEN you can laugh, brag & think your great, BUT you Haven't! SO be Quiet
medievaltimes
Wow, I bet Japanese fans are feeling Betrayed. I remeber seeing Kiss when I was Just A Boy, they had some Killer songs. The way I see it, they've Got Nothin' To Lose by canceling in Japan. Even with the economic Hard Times Kiss could play in Japan for the next 100,000 Years and sell at least some tickets. And for those that Hate them, think they are too old and have hit Rock Bottom, Kiss is laughing All The Way to the bank. Who knows, maybe they were Under The Gun with a busy schedule. Any Way You Slice It they are a pretty decent band but it's probably just best for everyone to Move On.
Elbuda Mexicano
Kiss was my favorite rock band when I was in Jr. High, still love Detroit Rock City!
LostinNagoya
I attended their last tour in Japan, you won't believe it. It's so funny, so good, so hilarious, you would pay ni-man-en smiling in front of the photo of Gene Simmons showing his tongue to you. Their cancellation is due to the never ending debacle inside the band. Or because they're 60-something ojichans and Stanley himself can barely do his tango-ballet number crowds love so much, whatever, but not because couldn't sell tickets. They might be an old act, but they still attract crowds.
(A joke only a hard-fan KISS will understand. Do you guys remember that band "Gene Loves Jezebell"? I once saw a T-shirt with a KISS logo written "Gene Loves Paul, and Hates Peter, Ace, Eric, Vinnie..." LOLOL. )
taj
It's not that I dislike them, I just don't know more than about 3 of their songs. All of conbenibento's references went over my head. I'm sure when they started playing them though, they'd be very familiar. Background music of my childhood.
And of course, KISS are showmen! It's not ALL about the music. And that's why I think it would be great fun to go see them.
somuchtalent
conbenibento!! You obviously still love it loud and right between the eyes. I have always been a fan of kisstory and always will be. Cheers
