Koyuki makes first wedding dress appearance after marriage to Matsuyama

Actress Koyuki, 34, appeared in a wedding dress for the first time after her recent marriage to actor Kenichi Matsuyama, 26, but it was a PR shot for her new movie “Tantei wa Bar ni Iru,” directed by Hajime Hashimoto.

In the movie, Koyuki plays Saori Kirishima, a widow and a bar owner, who falls in love again and remarries. The wedding scene was filmed in March, right before Koyuki and Matsuyama’s marriage. “The dress was designed to fit my character perfectly,” Koyuki said. “It has a very special meaning for me and I like it very much.”

“Tantei wa Bar ni Iru” opens in theaters on Sept 10.

Koyuki is a the REAL face of Japanese beauty. There's no question about that.

Gorgeous I agree with Blue Witch Koyuki is 10 times better than all of these AKB type girls and these fake Idols.

first Japanese wedding dress design that doesn't make the bride looks like a hooker from the wild wild west !!

I really find Koyuki unattractive and annoying.

So what "some" people prefer here instead? Those bondo/make-up loaded disgusting hookers from AKB48/Shibuya-type GALS/TV-tarento over a REAL Model like Koyuki? Bah! Pathetic.

I'd have to agree Koyuki has a certain elegance not matched by many these days ...

BlueWitch, are those others one refers to, hookers ? I didn't know ...

@Bondsan

LOL! They may not be "real" hookers though, but they certainly look and act like ones. Jeez, have you seen some japanese wedding dresses nowadays? Just like oberst pointed out, the designs are overall awful. I prefer the Uchikake wedding Kimono over one of those dresses any day, to be honest.

That dress Koyuki is wearing is wonderful, really gorgeous.

gorgeous! but i bet she looked even more beautiful at her wedding :)

Gotta agree with some of the posts above, Koyuki has an air of elegance about her that is sorely lacking in many young women in Japan. The hair, posture, everything looks just right. Doubt if anyone from AKB48 could pull this look off!

The reason the uchikake isn't so popular these days, apart from the price, is that it is very uncomfortable to wear. It's very heavy, allowing little free movement, and the wig that is part of the outfit is deliberately balanced to make the wearer keep her head bent in the 'traditional' submissive wife style. And all that white make-up means it could be anyone under there.

That's fine if that's what you like, of course. When I first came to Japan, uchikake was de rigeur, mainly because it was the parents who did a lot of the choosing and footing of bills. Now people are having more say in how they want to wed, and that's reflected in the changing styles.

Godan, you're comparing a 34-year-old with late teenies. Apples and oranges.

Good point, Cleo. But still see women in Japan in their 30s (and up) who don't know the meaning of elegance. Koyuki is an exception and far from the norm IMHO.

Remarkable that, in such a small picture, such a "great beauty" can still look like she has a big nose.

from the photos i just checked of her (sorry, don't think i've seen her films and don't watch tv), she looks like a woman whose mind is engaged. she's not prancing around like a show poodle freshly primped in the beauty salon to see how many heads she can turn.

a couple of shots were somewhat elegant, but i think that what generally distinguishes her persona is that she has her wits about her, and has a demure, sort of jaded expression at being photographed.

@kittyjump: I concur. Not sure what the fuss is about.

Bluewitch

Yes I agree, I've seen some of those wedding dresses and not much is left to wonder what lies beneath .. anyway, at least there are women such as Koyuki still around to remind us of real beauty.
