She is 29 and used "like" 5 times in 3 sentences. Lol.

Like somebody or something in Hollywood must really like her. It’s good they chose like a memoir for her first, oh my gawd, directorial/screenplay (like unbelievable) debut. Should be like pretty easy. I hear it’s already been nominated for an Oscar and will most likely win.

People can do what they want regarding their sexuality/sex lives as long as they aren't hurting anyone.

But I think it's sad and overall detrimental to society if so many of us abandon the natural emphasis on heterosexual marriage and childbearing. The natural family is the foundation building block of society and bearing and nurturing the next generation is not only a wonderful experience but a human sacrificial duty as well. Society will suffer economically or even die out without it. So, who is going to make the required sacrifices?

I can't help but feel that many of those who practice alternative sex lives are glad that their parents sacrificed to bear and raise them, but are unwilling to do the same for society.

so she just wanna say she's gay ? then ?? is this really a news ?

@Concerned Citizen

Your sexuality or gender has absolutely nothing to do with whether you have kids or not. Welcome to the future - there are many ways to have children which doesn't require a heterosexual relationship. I'm in one right now and I don't plan to have children. My sexuality has nothing to do with it.

“Like, Im like, sooo gay! Arent I wonderful?”

@kestrel You take the time to complain. Straight people talk about their lives every day. If you complained about that it would be never ending.

If you're old, you won't be able to keep up with the changes.

But the young ones are coping with it - they grew up with it.

Not arguing about her right to say what she feels, but - straight people talk about their lives every day? What, their sex lives? Their sexual identity? No, they don't.

And if they did, yeah, I'd complain about it.

Just by mentioning your girlfriend or wife, you are telling the world that you are straight. So yes, you are very clear in your everyday interactions with people what your sexual identity is. You should feel lucky that merely mentioning your significant other isn't taken as a blatant display of sexuality the way many people seem to think it is when a gay person mentions their partner.

And let's be clear: celebrities who talk openly about their sexual identity are a source of information for young people who may not have familial or other support when they begin to realize they are not straight. Visibility of sexual minorities brings acceptance. Even if her manner of speech annoys you, Kristen Stewart and other non-heteronomative celebrities are going to help a lot of young people along the road of accepting and loving themselves, instead of being lost, alone, and ashamed.

And no, the traditional family unit of heterosexual husband and wife isn't going to disappear. The number of GLBTQIA people has and will remain steady, because people don't suddenly become gay after hearing of a celebrity coming out. We have always been here, we've always been queer, so yeah - get over it.

It seems GLBTQIA becoming more visible arouses the ire of certain types of straight people. Maybe those people should interrogate themselves as to exactly why that is.

I agree but as technologies and medicines become available that allow people to live several decades longer or even double the average lifespan it is going to happen regardless. The emphasis will shift from marriage as a lifelong union to marriage as a long-term commitment. Multiple, brief marriages could also become more common. If life extension also increases a woman's period of fertility, siblings could be born 40 or 50 years apart. I'm not on board with everything necessarily, but it is going to radically change how we view all institutions and create an entirely different set of social relationships.

And from your comment I was supposed to know that about you?

Do you know how often people accuse LGBTQIA of “flaunting” their sexuality just by mentioning their same-sex partner? Your comment was right among those lines.

the rest of my comment was not specifically addressed to you, but at the entire thread, if that makes you feel better.

@Reckless

Well, even if you don't think that's "many" I'd still call it sufficient. My point is, it is entirely possible to have children without being in a heterosexual relationship, so it shouldn't cause people to worry about the extinction of our species.

My original comment was limited to, and only about, how straight people do (or rather don't) talk about their lives. I wouldn't presume to comment about how LGBTQIA+ people talk about theirs, and I haven't.

Again: people often complain about GLBTQIA "flaunting" their sexuality, and your comment came off as being of that ilk. If you did not mean it that way, simply telling me would have been sufficient for me to apologize.

Good for you. There was a time, back in the day, when being gay in my neck of the woods would get you spat on, beaten up or even killed.

It was the done thing to stay in the closet, to protect yourself from the aforementioned violence and hatred.

Nowadays, to celebrate your sexuality seems to upset some people. Speaks volumes about them, not us.

@Jonorth

Statistics show that heterosexual couples have a vastly greater childbearing rate than couples of alternative sexualities.

Japan and other low birth rate societies are suffering economically. So my point remains that, as I said.......

People can do what they want regarding their sexuality/sex lives as long as they aren't hurting anyone. But I think it's sad and overall detrimental to society if so many of us abandon the natural emphasis on heterosexual marriage and childbearing..........society will suffer economically.......... So, who is going to make the required sacrifices?

I think it's sad and detrimental to society that so many people can describe marriage as natural.

It's a relatively recent construct. If the idea of people not reproducing is so upsetting, perhaps more research should be done into IVF, stem cells and adoption?
