Kumi Koda performs at Billboard Live

Pop singer Kumi Koda played a special concert at Billboard Live on Sunday night in the run-up to an anniversary event in December that will commemorate 10 years since her debut.

The performance marked the last date of her 8-concert Billboard tour, the theme of which was again adult and sexy. Koda appeared before 300 fans in a provocative Moss Green dress with a see-through waist and belted out 14 songs, including a selection from the compilation album of covers she released this year "ETERNITY - Love & Songs."

"I want to continue to mature in an aggressive direction," she declared.

Koda's 10-year anniversary concert will take place in Tokyo Dome on Dec 5.

If she wants to mature, then why not go international, Europe or the States, and play for some real crowds. 300 fans WOW!!! What a crowd. I please don't tell me it's a language barrier thing. If the voice and music are good,,,"They will come".

14 songs equals what, maybe one hour.

Please, name a Japanese act that has made it in the United States or Europe. Even Puffy couldn't pull it off and I think they are a lot better than Kumi Koda.

300 is a full house here. I saw Marcus Miller (don't even think of comparing him to Koda!) and he said it was one of his favourite venues, because it was so much more intimate than anything else he gets to play.

Well this is certainly news-worthy.

"a provocative Moss Green dress"

The moss must have been on the dress before Kumi put it on, as no moss can grow on a dress that she wears.

Utada Hikaru made an attempt in the states with her album Exodus. I said attempt. It only made it to 160 on the US Billboard 200 chart. The single "Devil Inside made it to Billboards Number 1 spot in 2004 for Radio Airplay. Kyu Sakamoto made it big in the US with Sukiyaki. It was number 1 on the "Billboard Hot 100 Singles" in 1963 and it is still the only Japanese song to achieve that rank. It has been estimated that 13 million copies of the song was sold in over 70 countries. There are some good singers out there believe it or not, but they don't have the sex appeal sale look that the Japanese men and women crave. Oh by the way Puffy sucks although they did have a cartoon in the states.

Aggressive direction? Is that a J euphemism for something else?

Marcus Miller, now that is old school. Not sure how many Japanese enjoy good Jazz since I never hear any on the radio. 300 would be a good croud for him considering the location. I would expect much more anywhere else. Koda may have had 600 fans turn out if they had gotteb together.
