Kumi Koda wins outstanding achievement award for nails

Pop singer Kumi Koda, 27, received an outstanding achievement award this week at the 25th annual Manicurist Association awards ceremony in Tokyo. She was handed the award on stage by singer Ayumi Hamasaki, 32, and TV personality Becky, 26. This is not the first time the association has noticed Koda's fingernails -- she has been named the association's nail queen three times.

"I've decided to adopt the theme of sparkling wings from now on," Koda announced while showing off her latest black and white nail design. "Nails are like an accessory that helps women shine. I'm going continue to do my best to take good care of mine."

best jeans, best nails. She can stop her singing career then and keep focussing on her appearance.

I normally associate outstanding achievement with something noble like charity or humanitarian work.....

Then I came to Japan....

Those talons make me shudder. Should not the outstanding achievement award go to the nail salon that does her nails?

Not only in Japan. there are plenty of awards for beards and nails and theb like outside Japan as well. Anyway, her nails look wicked - she could be my accessory anytime.

1/3 of Japanese her age do not have a job or work a measly p/t job... I am glad someone so talented is so happy and appreciated. The future looks bright in the nail racket.

mrskit:

And I wonder, if she has to go to the restroom, maybe she needs to be very careful not to hurt sensible parts of her body when whiping and cleaning.

Her nails are unique hands down.

@mrskit

i was watching the morning tv news last week and they were showing special gadgets gyaru can buy to do even basic tasks like opening a can of coke or buttoning up a jacket without breaking one of their elaborately decorated extremely long fake fingernails!kumi Koda could do with some. Also the fact that such a crap award has been around for 25 years and that other vacuous celebrities are associated shows how shallow some can be here.

I am very proud of KuKo.

yes electric,,,i totally agree,,,ouch for long nails in wrong places!

and judderman,,,,only Japan could think of such a niche aye! I just wonder what is the attraction with fake in Japan,, well not only here, but amongst all 20 somethings,,, fake laugh, hair, nails, tan,,,personality all us boring over 30ish ones are real?

I would like to know, what an achievement it is to invest one's money and time in artificial fingernails.I do not know this person,so I cannot judge her. Yet I think it requires something more than painted fingernails to improve human relationships and encourage desperate people.THIS would be a real achievement in my eyes.

So she nailed being the best nailist ?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm sure there's a terribly sexist joke in there somewhere, something to do with wanting to "nail the nailist", but I'm far too well-bred to make it.

Look at those talons.. those of a vulture.

Lots of young girls are into nails now, too. A complete waste of time.

Alright, I see all these negaive post, she has a marketable asset (she cleans up real good). She probably makes more money than all the negative posters. Nail art is a booming industry, whether you like it or not. And, The758, posting on sites like this is also a complete waste of time, but we enjoy it.

Melikes kumi, but entertainers here don't make much money at all. The agencies get most of it because the talents are so interchangeable:|

I like to grow my nails long, but after a centimeter or so it gets difficult doing things like opening cans. As they get longer, it's hard to pick up stuff or button shirts. Laziness and good genes are my excuse, so I can't imagine going out of my way to put giant, sparkly crap on my hands to make everything difficult.

How do they shower?? That's my biggest question. Surely your hair gets caught on all those gems. Or do you pay 20,000 for the manicure and then 5000 every day or two to have a stylist wash your hair?

what a mutt

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I bet she'd make a great back scratcher.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So can we call her the best nailist?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I wonder which celebrity/telento/other will take this years award for being the Dumbest or most tacky, they give awards here for everything else here it seems. Outstanding award for finger nails ? they have to be taking the P!ss dont they?

To all of you that constantly write negative comments:

You guys in fact enjoy and like these kinds of awards, don't you. It's a big compliment for Koda that you follow these articles with such a great interest. Otherwise you wouldn't even read it nor write a comment.
