All of these individuals are some of the greatest movie producers back in the past. I have most of Kurosawa's movies in my Criterion Movie Collection. They just aired a remake of Stray Dogs last week on TV Asahi, but I out of town on business. I hope they rebroadcast it again sometime in the near future. Did anyone see it?

Kurosawa deserves the honour. His "No Regrets For Our Youth", "Rashomon" and "Sugata Sanshiro" are favourites. All three are/were available on DVDs.

No Ozu? That's a pity, as you would have the 50's and 60's Japanese cinema kings completely covered. Kurosawa himself is probably turning in his grave (or casket) as he firmly rejected the notions of awards, claiming he was still learning!

I wish Mifune, had been included in the list of collaborators.

What did he write? I ask out of ignorance, as I know he is a terrific actor, but I didn't realise that he wrote as well.

The passage is right Timtak. It is the Jean Renoir Award for Screenwriting Achievement. So, despite the fact that Mifune was a great collaborator with Kurosawa on so many great films, he was an actor, not a writer. Those two together were great though...

Like The Passage I say: "No Ozu?" Yasujiro Ozu who collaborated with screenwriter Kogo Noda on many of Ozu's films should both have been honoured. They featured simple but telling dialogues about ordinary Japanese families: "Tokyo Story", "Late Spring", "Floating Weeds", "Equinox Flower" "An Autumn Afternoon", etc.

My favorite Kurosawa film is Kagemusha.
