transfer those funds to Japan and let Lady Gaga perform once more in Nippon...all for the sake of Tohoku !

Some Islamic groups have protested the diva’s provocative clothing

Without the provocative clothing and iconoclastic behavior, her value as an entertainer would plunge.

pay them enough bribe money and they'll conveniently overlook their morals. Indonesia is already a lost cause of corrupted morals, but not the youth. The government and police are so embedded in corruption. Leave the kids alone.

Concert promoter Michael Rusli had already sold 52,000 tickets. He could not immediately be reached for comment Tuesday.

Run Michael Run!

Though it's definitely part of her show, I disagree. I think Lady Gaga is a strong enough musician - both vocal ability and strength as an accomplished pianist - that she could be successful even without the meat dress. She also gives really strong shows - sure, part of it is the costumes and her antics, but she's a really energetic and creative performer, and of course always performs live, and I think that's contributed to her success.

She is a bit of a modern day elton john type and i know she is compared to a modern madonna alot, she does have something alot of other performers lack.

These muslim hard liners need to pull there heads in as people don't need to be told by them what is acceptable and what is not, gaga should go and perform in the middle east to show these backward muslim leaders the reality of freedom.

And they didn't think or voice anything sooner before the tickets went on sale?.....

why are religious people so narrow minded? i think it's religion that is the source of more hate, bigotry and racism then anything else in this world.

16 ( +17 / -1 )

It's simple. If you feel offended don't' go and see her. That way, those with dictated religious views and opinions won't be offended, and the independent free and critical thinkers can go and see her and have a good evening. Sounds fair to me...

@rickyvee: why are religious people so narrow minded?

That's easy to answer, but the mods would remove my answer in a flash (nuff said)..

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Yep, that is secular Indonesia, which is gradually sliding towards Shariah.

rickyvee:

" why are religious people so narrow minded? "

Because the follow the words and the behaviour of thei founder of their respective religion.

" i think it's religion that is the source of more hate, bigotry and racism then anything else in this world. "

That is a ridiculous generalization. It is not Buddhists or Bahais who want to force medieval rules on everybody. It is only the relgions which have such a political agenda.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Its extremely ironic to see a group of people trying to force their beliefs on others voice their concern about the country's diminishing moral fiber. Forcing your beliefs on others is highly immoral, but the posers are very consistent about doing it, and they seem to vastly outnumber actual moral people.

Cletus,

Didnt you read the article one here the other day saying your race and culture will be extinct within a thousand years.

If that is the price of purity, I will gladly pay. Besides, you were on that thread saying how it made no sense to project out 1,000 years.

Aliases,

but you don't get to decide for an entire country what is okay and not okay.

Not yet, but I'm working on it. Someone has to fill the role, and I think I am best suited to keeping out this sort of influence and manipulating public opinion.

Being tolerant is so scary. We must defend our rigid mindset at all costs.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Abrahamic religions are the ones which are hateful and intolerant. Yet they are the ones that have historically voiced the most loudy about self-defined "immortality".

I hope Lady GAGA can find a different venue in a better country.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Can't she do the concert wearing a burqa?

2 ( +3 / -2 )

"Islamic hard-liners"

Pfffft!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

No surprises here. That Indonesia joint is not exactly a bastion of tolerance - never has been. I wouldn't have been surprised if she had been arrested and faced 100 lashes from moronic Indonesian "Moral Police" for "lascivious dancing" had the gig gone ahead! I'm no Gaga fan but it seems quite sad - she actually preaches tolerance of ethnicity/sexual identity etc. Shows the Indonesians up for how backwards a society they are more than anything.

My guess is Indonesia is only tolerant on paper?? Sure they respect all religions, as long as they know their place??

The Christiians in Indonesia have no problem Lady Gaga performing in whatever nutty outfit she wants. And neither have the Jews.

There is only "Abrahamic religion" that wants to Burkha women. But we are all so politically correct that we must not name it, so instead we waffle on about "all religions".

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Sorry, that was to be: "there is only ONE "Abrahamic religion" that wants to burkha women".

Good for Indonesia!-Families of all races & religions have had just about had it with this"Alternate Lifestyle" routine! Sure, live & let live -That goes Both Ways-This young lady has made a barrel of $$$ off this topic and has just heard the other "Alternative" and They are Intolerant in the Extreme.

"Hard-liners have loudly criticized Lady Gaga . . . Some threatened to use physical force to prevent her from stepping off the plane."

A few will dictate to 240 million Indonesians and threaten violence if Ga appears. Those who have threatened violence should be jailed for the duration of the appearance. Instead of shackling the Indonesian people, those who use, urge and fester violence should be shackled.

Ga's problem is she is a voice for tolerance. She hasn't urged her 'monsters' to commit violence, use drugs or judge anyone else. Ga is the threat? Missing a Ga show isn't the worst thing that has happened to Indonesians. The worst thing is a few have decided for millions what they can hear, see and enjoy as pure entertainment.

My Lady, your in my heart.

Don't K-Pop and J-Pop groups perform in Indonesia?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

WilliB, yes, what you said is correct about this particular incident in Indonesia, but I was referring in a more general sense of dictates and limited tolerance. Each of the main three Abrahamic religions assert only followers of their variant is "right" and all others are "wrong" or infidels, thus deserving death, either presently or eternal damnation.

I think Lady GAGA is pretty out-to-lunch in some ways but I respect her individuality. I don't care much for music, not my style, but more power to her. She doesn't infringe on the liberty of others, unlike Shariah or Victorian laws, or Levitical law.

As an Indonesian, I am very very much disappointed about this news. Here in Jakarta, the police seem to be afraid of Front Pembela Islam (FPI a.k.a Islam Defendant Front), the religious group that shouted the loudest about banning this concert. It is ridiculous to give in and meet their demands as Indonesia is not an Islamic country and they have, by the way, no rights to cancel the concert.

I can accept protests from many people of different backgrounds or religions about Lady Gaga's and her influence to the youth.. But come on! Some religious group stopping her from the biggest ball in Asia we could ever have because of that? That's not fair! Who are they to judge about Lady Gaga's and youth's moral corruption? Like they think they're going to heaven whatsoever because of this concert cancellation? Blaaaahh!!

Even those devoted Christians in Korea only protested and issued their concerns loudly.. They could not cancel the concert.. Why on earth is the police and Jakarta's government giving space to those freakin' religious group!?

Did you already forget the recent article about the Christian extremists in Korea who were making noise about wanting to have the Lady Gaga concert canceled? Christianity is no more inherently benevolent than Islam.

By the way, the Koran says nothing about forcing women to wear a Burkha or anything of the sort. Covering is a cultural tradition, NOT a religious tradition - in many middle eastern countries, Christian women also cover themselves.

Whaaa???

I won't ever be going to Intolerantnesia with Lady Tamanegi. EVER!

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Ahh, good ol' institutionalized religion.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yeah, the peak of civilization indeed....

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

who said her sexy clothes and dance moves will corrupt the youth.

OK, first lemme pick myself up off the floor from laughing too hard... OK, phew... They are worried about "corrupting" the youth? Really? These guys are worried about corruption, in Indonesia? The same Indonesia which has consistently topped several lists ranking the most corrupt nations on the planet? And to battle corruption, these upstanding and moral hardliners are going to go about it by protesting a freakin' Lady Gaga concert?? Uh oh, here comes another fit of uncontrollable laughter...!
