Why are they going to National TV and talk about rape by someone instead of going to Police Station?
First, some sportsperson, actress and actors told to reporters they are Gay or Lesbian without asking their sexuality. Now they are talking on National TV about how they were raped by friend and family member. What wrong with these peoples? I believe some women were raped and some degree of sexually abused by their employers in entertainment industry.
A few days ago, Shia LaBeouf said he was raped by spectator. Why he doesn't go to Police and Hospital to collect DNA evidence and open the criminal case against offender? Sometime I have problem with creditability of their story.
Peoples like Lady Gaga are always trying to make publicity for fame. So I don't believe what she said. She should be model for her fans. She must go to Police station and tell them truth about what that person had done to her if her story of rape was true. No one should be above the law and offender rapist must be prosecuted by law.

Something called personal shame... they probably felt too ashamed to go to the police, Perhaps they felt they wouldn't be believed. Loads of reasons why people don't report sexual assault and rape. Here in the UK TV personalities have recently been jailed for sexual assaults, rapes and the like they committed in the past because their victims were too afraid to report the crimes to the police.

She should disclose details to save others.

Victims don't report rape for many reasons. They feel shame, they feel no one will believe them, they know the statistics say that rape has the lowest conviction rates of all serious crimes. Most rapes are not reported. It's up to the person who has been raped to decide whether they want to go public or not, no one else's decision.

I do not believe her

Because people say things like this without any information whatsoever:

This rapist is still basically free to continue assaulting women. It is a tragedy all round.

Rape and sexual assaults are two of the least reported violent crimes and there are valid reasons why one who experiences unwanted sexual contact don't report the incident to the police. You have to understand that victims of rape and assault have to make sense of what happened to them within a culture where rape accusations are often met with skepticism, where offenders aggressive behaviors are often dismissed as normal and whence victims are often implicated as partially responsible. Thus, victims may make conscious decisions not to report in order to avoid potential embarrassment including the use of self-blame as an avoidance based coping tool. In the end reporting requires that the victim be willing to hold a perpetrator publicly accountable for his actions and that can be severely impeded when the offender is someone the victims knows intimately.

I believe her. Going to police only makes things far worse, and if the man is aquitted, then the woman is labelled a liar. The law isnt always right. She has no duty towards other women, let other women watch their own backs. Not sure telling everyone isnt just a sympathy move though.

She is not only one who came out. Bill Cosby raping stories encouraged vixtims came out to talk their experience, When Californian long time lawmaker (She was very cute when she began politicking) told her rape experience when she started political activities, more Cosby victims came out. I don't think Ga Ga came out to increase her fame or income. She will be in Vegas very soon, This kind of stories usually decrease ticket sales. That is another reason entertainers keep their mouth shut of rape experience.
toshiko
My guess is that Ga Ga wants to encourage victims come out even what they say are usually laughed and they are labeled as an attention getter by some kind of men.

Lady Gaga, is this news? Lol........

But if you are not famous, don;t worry, gossip mag ignore you.

Because when it happens you are in such shock you will often just block it out, get on with your life and try to pretend it never happened. Especially if you are off the mindset that things like that dont happen to "girls like you". And you think you CAN run from it for a long time, but as she rightly points out, you can't. It comes out in other ways - panic attacks, alcohol abuse or other behaviors. But by that point it is often too late to go to the police because you now feel you have no physical evidence and the police won't believe you anyway, or be able to do anything about it even if they do. Added to that you have the guilt of knowing that because YOU didnt report it, some other women are likely victims now because of your "cowardice". Its a terrible place to be. Gaga is an attention hound, no doubt about that. But I doubt very much she would make up something like this. Its way too serious and would totally alienate her if proven false. There is nothing genuine rape victims hate more - other than their attacker himself - than false rape claims. It makes their own truth harder to believe.

When girls report rape, in USA, police station used to laugh off, That is why Californian Congree woman revealed her secret and tries to work politically, I heard on TV specials of this kind of topics that included Bert Raynold used to beat his wife, Loni Anderson and Loni is auctioning memorabias. now. .

Kinda sounds like she is saying if you are a women and you drink and party with jerks, you are asking for it.
Gee, we've come a long way, baby.

@JTDanMan
I think she was talking about the aftermath, that her drinking heavily and such was related to the trauma of the rape, and that she had to deal with the rape in order to fix other problems in her life, rather than just repressing it and covering up the feelings with alcohol, etc. Not that she was raped because of her drinking.

Excellent analysis.
Wolfpack
Degrading herself is beautiful? That is a very twisted kind of thought process. Comments and actions of this kind indicate that she needs a lot more therapy. I understand that she has gone through a very traumatic experience. I just do not see self degradation as a positive step forward.
toshiko
See if rape victims come up to tell their stories, some people call 'slef degradation' . No wonder they keep Mouth shut. Wolfpack explained well. There must be many people agree with Wolfpack attitude. First, cops do not take them seriousely then Wolfpack type people iblame them in society.
NathalieB
To be fair, I think Wolfpack wasnt referring so much to the telling of her story, more to the then getting someone to puke on her as a symbol of self degradation in the name of "art".

Ah, I see. That makes sense.

Any incident dealing with rape or alleged rape are all very very touchy subject especially for the victim!! Just because Lady Ga Ga dresses and behaves weirdly we should not think it was impossible for her to be raped by some 40 on scumbag when she was only 19 years old. I do believe her and I do support her for trying to get the message out that rate does happen and that rate victim should speak out!!!
