Again, Lady Gaga shows what is like to be a humanitarian. As I wrote in another Gaga article, she was one of the first, if not the first, to raise money and give money (a huge amount) to the victims of the Tohoku earthquake. She is a great example for people today that life is not just about making money, but it is about giving to others.

Her music is pretty good, too!

Nice gesture but it's not her money, is it?

It's her cup. They're not bidding on oxygen.

but I'm sure she has donated a lot already.

She has, a huge amount.

Great stuff!

Let's hope the bids are legit.

Hope all you want they are legit. I want to know how this NEW SELLER can get away with refusing to sell it to NEW BUYERS. By that I mean people with low or no auction feedback. Pretty dumb if you ask me,

I think it's very admirable of her to raise charity for a noble cause.

Last night, the news was reporting the price had gone up to 400,000 yen. Maybe it was a mistake in this headline. Cool it has gone up to over a million yen.

Cactusjack is correct - unless the author has a flux capacitor, the current bid has only just passed the 1million yen mark according to the auction page.

Inaccuracy does not surprise me with this source. Look at this wording.

The quake-tsunami catastrophe killed some 19,000 people on Japans northeast coast

Wow. Go ahead and revise the figures at once.

@Daijoboots - what's the correct number of victims?

Back to Gaga, like I said she can be quite philanthropic, and that's a big plus given her power as a celebrity. I still don't like her stuff or gaudy outfits, but that's me.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I think it is fantastic how generous she is and I like her music. However, I was not crazy about her meat costume or that rude "Judas" song she said. On the whole, I am impressed though.

@Maria (and Daijoboots) - according to most websites, that is the official total.

The price sure does change a lot...it is now down to 503,000 yen...a far cry from 4 million. (At 9:30PM Japan time)

Even if It's only 5 yen... It's 5 more then before. GO GA-GA !

Lady Gaga has a good heart and I think she's also a positive role model, too!

Trout Mask Replica.

Lady Gaga Teacup Charity Auction! Now Current Bid is US$ 22,453. Time left only 2days! http://bit.ly/Iz459a

The only reason this isn't ridiculous is that it's for charity. In some respects, Gaga is great about that (though I have a friend who ordered her 'pray for Japan' armbands and was extremely disappointed with the poor quality of them. Anyway, she does a lot more than local bands who donate 6% or so of proceeds from their new albums, so good on her. And welcome back to Japan, next week (does it bother Japanese right-wingers if you point out she started the Asian tour in SKorea before coming to Japan?).

Nice gesture but it's not her money, is it? At least not in this case, but I'm sure she has donated a lot already.

When some artists donate a percentage of the proceeds of their records you have to consider that they don't really make much of record sales, so even that tiny percentage might be all the money the artists were supposed to make after all.

And welcome back to Japan, next week (does it bother Japanese right-wingers if you point out she started the Asian tour in SKorea before coming to Japan?).

Maybe not as much as it seems to please you. ww

I just checked. 現在の価格 : 1,183,000 円....What is this 4 million yen nonsense in the article? Another thing, the message is written in perfect Japanese handwriting in ....Japanese.

daisan: "Maybe not as much as it seems to please you. ww"

It does please me to see right-wingers get all worked up over little things like the way a Korean woman, who is far more successful than most of her J-counterparts, eats noodles, or how Korean Drama is rented out more than domestic shows, etc. In this case, I doubt the media played it up. I was just interested in knowing.

Have any Japanese TaRentos raised money for Tohoku recently or has it tapered off? Just curious if anyone knows.

As for Lady Gaga that is certainly a laudable gesture on her part. I'm sure she realizes she has a huge Japanese fanbase and is just giving back. As for her style and music, that's another matter. Can't help but see her more than a modern-day madonna clone with bits of Cyndi Lauper and Gwen Stefani thrown in.

offered more than four million yen ($50,000) by Tuesday, with five days left before the hammer falls.

US$ price may go up if Yen continues to strengthen like today :) guess it will settle for around Y5m !
