A newbie American driver, driving all over Tokyo- sounds like a recipe for a car wreck!

LOL, A newbie driver in Tokyo on an International License. I'd love to see this.

She'd better have plenty of music on the stereo to while away the hours when she sits in traffic jams and she'd better take along someone who knows the city because without any real address system she won't be able to find her way around.

I think she would be safe as you are stuck in traffic most of the time anyway. But turning on the wipers rather than the turn signal all the time gets old fast.

She definitely will be driving on the wrong side of the road. And then an earthquake hits .... oh, my!

Watch out for the bicycles going up q one way the wrong way and people lurching into the street or just walking in it for whatever reason. And the taxis.

Yeah she would be crying some more when she sees how selfish and rude Japanese drivers are. Cut up all the time, zoom past on the left side, jump traffic lights, hit and run, never stop at pedestrian zebra crossings. I could go on and on.

A newbie American driver, driving all over Tokyo- sounds like a recipe for a car wreck! compared to all the geriatric Japanese drivers terrorizing the roads Id say she wont stand out much, dont get me started on the taxi drivers!

Love driving in Tokyo. Seriously. It's always an adventure.

Driving the Shuto Expressway at night is like a video game.

If Lady Gaga really wants to see Tokyo ... why doesn't she get a bicycle and cycle around the city. She can see and do more that way ... especially if she has a good guide. And, if she really wants to see the city and do things right ... walk. This is a city made for walking ... again, lots of things to see and do.

And if Lady Gaga really wants to see some really great things, she should cycle or walk around the many other places in Japan that offer all kinds of excitement, beauty, culture, etc. Why not just move here Lady Gaga ... and really tune in to things Japanese.

Stuck in a traffic jam in Tokyo some years ago I was rear-ended by what turned out to be a young American lady. She got out and came over to apologize, looking really embarrassed. She was in bare feet. "I was scratching one foot with the other!" she explained. Japan may have some weird driving but Lady Gaga will surely offer something new.

edojin,

This is a city made for walking ... again, lots of things to see and do.

Well said, sir.

... or madam - delete the one that is inappropriate.

My custom when coming to a new place is to walk around it, taking as many new roads as possible until I'm familiar with the area. It's a good plan.

When I came to Tokyo, 40 years ago, I had a small apartment in Oyamadai. Wandering around the busy streets one day, I came across a sort of staircase going down into the bowels of the earth. Not seeing any sign telling me not to, I wandered down. It was incredible! At the bottom of the stairs there was no trace of the busy, noisy, smelly streets, but a lovely valley, complete with waterfall, tea shop and temple. It was magic!

This was Todoroki Koen, a sort of crack in the earth, invisible from the surface, just as the streets were invisible from the valley down below.

You wouldn't find this by driving. You would only find it by walking around.

Walking around Tokyo, you can find the most amazing things.

Driving?

No thank you!

Gag, I have driven all over Tokyo, many times, and I love driving here. Much less stressful than America. People in Japan are trained how to drive. One state in America has already had 1,565 highway deaths this year! One state. The only problem driving around Tokyo is parking. You can find parking, but it'll cost a lot.

She just got her driver's license - of course she would wanna drive everywhere, lol

And then once ya had your fill, ya grow out of that phase and just drive when ya feel like it

There is no international drivers license. Americans who vista Japan do not drive in Japan. They learn how to ride on train. I don't know where Gaga obtained license but I am pretty sure she got in USA. This must be her thinking to be popular in Japan to promote her future record dales up in Japan.

“I think I would drive all over Tokyo,” the 30-year-old said at a press conference. “I think I wouldn’t stop driving, if I could.”

She couldn't think of anything else to say on the spur of the moment

“It’s so beautiful,” the New York City native said, wiping away tears

Obviously read in JT how insincere shows of emotion inspire support

never stop at pedestrian zebra crossings. I could go on and on.

Last week I saw a car come within a few inches of hitting a mother and her obviously handicap child trying to walk across a crossing. To stop would at most take 10 seconds to do... The police should put cameras on on these crossings and fine people who obviously don't care for other people's safety.
