Whoa. Reliable/reputable sources are still better than gossip.

They are not reliable. I did a lot of searching and they all blame the death threats and swear they are all from Islamic groups. If I put up a death threat on this board, would you know my religion? So how is their religion known? Clearly, the concert was cancelled by failure to reach an agreement with the Indonesian authorities, but the headlines and the first few paragraphs of all articles on the subject blame the death threats, sometimes in misleading language, as they steer us toward the sensationalism that will entice, but not offend their readers (Christian or pro-Christian.) Muslims are fair game to them. The bias is blatant and obvious. They know most people won't read past the first few paragraphs and they abuse that.

None of them are truly reliable, not the gossip sites and not the so-called reliabe sites either. They are all biased and sensationalistic at the same time. You can't tell me that with that much protest from Christians, that not even one issued a death threat.

Sorry you don't like my links, but gossip rags are not always wrong. And you seem to have skipped over the part where I proved the "reputable" sources unreliable.

Whoa. Reliable/reputable sources are still better than gossip. Good luck on convincing others to care for you

Death threats? Only in your imagination-

Look up Piss Christ on wiki. Also jog your memory if you are old enough.

However, show any cartoonist today who dares to publish a cartoon of Mohammed,

Trey Parker and Matt Stone. All the people who participated in Draw Mohammad Day.

By the way, Gaga would not even have dreamed about appearing in Mindanao, which is the muslim part of the Philippines.

Or any other warzone! How very much like the press. You ignore the greater facts to attempt and pin the blame on Islam.

I live in the Philippines, I can assure you that there were no death threats issued to Lady Gaga by any Muslim, Catholic, Christian, Buddhist, etc.

I don't care where you live. Only Lady Gaga and certain employees of hers can say that with certainty.

I feel sorry for Lady Gag.

@showmethemoney

Your link http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/entertainment/05/21/12/lady-gaga-opens-show-filipiniana-dress does not report any death threats but (if you read carefully) only a Lawsuit threat (in bold letters). This report is from a website of one reputable media organization.

However, your other link http://www.thehollywoodgossip.com/2012/05/lady-gaga-performs-in-phillippines-despite-protests-threats/ comes from a website called "The Hollywood GOSSIP".

Please use reliable sources rather than gossip, dubious or even at worst possibly "planted" information.

I live in the Philippines, I can assure you that there were no death threats issued to Lady Gaga by any Muslim, Catholic, Christian, Buddhist, etc. Hopefully it stays that way for all respectful artists.

FPI is such a group of hypocrites, man. They banned Gaga's concert but let local Dangdut stars singing and dancing with inviting moves. Pathetic. And what's worse is the government, for letting such organization ruling and telling people what to do and not. Grrrr....

Borscht:

" Yes, I agree. If your religion can be torn apart by a pop singer or a bit of cleavage, better rethink your religion. This applies to all religious fanatics/fundamentalists/perverts. "

This is NOT about generic "religion". The Indonesian population consists of Christians, Muslims, and Hindus. Out of these, only one groups issued death threats. Guess which one.

showmethemoney:

" And as for your claim that Christians don't make death threats when they feel their religion is being mocked, look up the Piss Christ. "

Death threats? Only in your imagination- We had "piss Christ", and "Mary in Cow dung" and countless tastless Jesus cartoons, and all that Christians do is protest, which their right.

However, show any cartoonist today who dares to publish a cartoon of Mohammed, of any type. I am not holding my breath.

showmethemoney:

" The press just chooses to use vague language when its Christians doing it. How does anyone know the religion of people making threats anyway? Have threat makers been arrested? But when it seems like its Christians, we get pussyfooting. When it seems like its Muslims, then the headlnes blare "Islamic extremist death threat". "

No. As the Gaga treatment in Indonesia and the Philippines demonstrates, the precise opposite is the case. Christians can offended with abandon, since they are harmless, Islam, however must be treated with silk gloves, since nobody likes to receive death threats.

By the way, Gaga would not even have dreamed about appearing in Mindanao, which is the muslim part of the Philippines. Guess what her half-life would have been there.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

The difference is that the "threats" by Christians were threats of legal action and of boycott.

No. I am talking about death threats. http://www.thehollywoodgossip.com/2012/05/lady-gaga-performs-in-phillippines-despite-protests-threats/

The press just chooses to use vague language when its Christians doing it. How does anyone know the religion of people making threats anyway? Have threat makers been arrested? But when it seems like its Christians, we get pussyfooting. When it seems like its Muslims, then the headlnes blare "Islamic extremist death threat".

That should give you pause as well as the fact that the article makes it look like the threats cancelled the show when it was in fact failure to come to an agreement with the Indonesian government. The press is clearly biased.

And as for your claim that Christians don't make death threats when they feel their religion is being mocked, look up the Piss Christ. They can and do make death threats and did to Gaga too. The only point for debate might be the volume, but with the press like this, there is no way to tell.

Do American Muslims protest against her?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

well, she had to cover herself in bacon from head to toe...

0 ( +1 / -1 )

The difference is that the "threats" by Christians were threats of legal action and of boycott. The threats by Muslims were for violence, chaos, and death. For an idea on how Muslim protests turn out, look no further than the case of Theo Van Gogh- murdered by radical Muslims. Or, the attacks on those who made the famous "Mohammed cartoons". Or Molly Norris, an American journalist forced into hiding after threats on her life. These actions have created an atmosphere of fear and terror in western media that does not exist when dealing with other religions.

The safest 'edgy' thing for artists to do is offend Christianity. The worst that will happen is a strongly worded letter to the editor of a local newspaper, or perhaps an angry phone call to a radio show.

In fact, Gaga was also threatened in the Philippines: "Lady Gaga defied criticisms and threats from conservative Christians..." http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/entertainment/05/21/12/lady-gaga-opens-show-filipiniana-dress

But the press is not quite so clear about those threats for (ahem) some reason.

And let us remember that Gaga was simply banned in Indonesia unless she toned down the show. In fact, there were talks about toning down the show, but an agreement could not be reached. But now its suddenly about the threats? Come on. Who is kidding who here.

Respect people and their culture.

Trust me that country's religion will last longer than her career. SHE SHOULD GROW UP !!!! AND COMPROMISE.

I'm an young adult, I tell my children and anybody who wants to hear.

I'm not conservative, her music is so so. Copied alot of madonna and add re but hey ?

Don't take advice LITERALLY from - Entertainers because their job is to ENTERTAIN If you have an agenda or some type of goal to reach, wear decent clothes. Because 20 years from now your kids will make fun of you for listening to some sh!tty lady gag gag music. ( her latest album was sh!tty )

IF YOUR WALKING AROUND WITH YOUR UNDERWEAR & glittery clothes who's going to follow you - mostly idiots.

If you are criticizing idols and worldly Gods but you got a fan club idolizing yourself. Does that make you a hypocrite ? Because you got more followers on twitter, even god doesn't have that man followers on twitter. You do say your name Lady gag gag like 100 times during your songs (entire album) which means your talent is lacking.

When you go to another country shoving your idiotic country's values because you were " conditioned that way " do you really need to shove your twisted values and morals in someone's throat. RESPECT THE COUNTRY YOUR PERFORMING AT because we know you need the money and more twitter followers.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

and this is why i hate religion! = meaningless protesting for something like this which could cause war = death for something so stupid. i'm not a fan of her music but i'm not going to go protest to kick her out of any country lol

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Good riddance!

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

"Then perhaps it is time for the 1.5 billion to stand up to the handful of idiots that are making them look bad."

Now that's a statement worth repeating. You should send out a group email to all of them.

6 ( +5 / -0 )

Godd try, GAGA! next time to sing in Saudi Arabia, remeber to bring a bullet proof vest!

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

She was asked to tone down her shows, she refused. When it Rome.... Does it mean I support all the BS and the pushing of things when 'they" don't follow "our" notions of Rome? Certainly not but Gaga is only famous FOR being a famewhore. Time she came up with something new.

And that's coming from someone who paid to see her live. Great show but I can easily see how it would offend many, many people - religious or not.

And yes, when going for shock value, go after the Christians.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Once again religion is forcing its beliefs upon everyone else and grows angry to just get its own way.

Not a massive fan of Lady Gaga but I feel sorry for her young fans there who have had to suffer due to the views of a few religious extremists.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Stop blaming 1.5 billion people's religion for what a handful of idiots did.

Then perhaps it is time for the 1.5 billion to stand up to the handful of idiots that are making them look bad.

8 ( +9 / -2 )

"On the flip side though, I suppose that people could always just not go see her if they are offended by her." That is exactly correct!!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Wanderlust

Are their beliefs so fragile that a young pop singer scares them?

Yes, I agree. If your religion can be torn apart by a pop singer or a bit of cleavage, better rethink your religion. This applies to all religious fanatics/fundamentalists/perverts. Obviously there are about 50,000 non-religious fanatics whose religion is strong enough to attend her concert.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

The safest 'edgy' thing for artists to do is offend Christianity. The worst that will happen is a strongly worded letter to the editor of a local newspaper, or perhaps an angry phone call to a radio show. Offend Islam, and prepare to die. Literally. The world of art/literature/journalism is littered with corpses provided by the followers of Mohammed. Others still live in genuine fear and are forced into hiding for having the temerity to question the 'prophet'.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

The people who made the threats are not asking for tolerance around the world. Totally different people. Stop blaming 1.5 billion people's religion for what a handful of idiots did.

I agree with showmethemoney. Some people are just judging one whole religion based on prejudice alone by things "some people" did in the past. Not all religion's followers do only good things in history, but the religion itself wasn't the one at fault.

I want to say that the Indonesian police was the first to bring the refusal issue, and they haven't confirmed yet about any hardliner's approachment with them.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Considering the fanatical nut-jobs behind the threats, I'm glad she cancelled the event, if not for her own safety then for the safety if the thousands of her fans.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

A religion that demands tolerance for its own practices and beliefs around the world, yet is incapable of showing any tolerance itself.

-9 ( +3 / -11 )

Good for her for not caving in. There's only so much she can compromise before it becomes not her show anymore. Either accept her show as-is, or she walks.

7 ( +6 / -1 )

Totalitarian religion wins again. Religion to me and it's insecure rules is like a divine North Korea. A sad day for freedom of speech and expression.

Once again medieval rules have been imposed on everyone, including atheists who may have wanted to go and see Lady Gaga in Indonesia.

5 ( +6 / -2 )

On the flip side though, I suppose that people could always just not go see her if they are offended by her

@ Matthew Simon: I wish it were that easy. If they don't like her music, then don't go. Next they will probably start blocking downloads of her music and videos (if they haven't already) to the people in Indonesia.

But I have to hope that this will knock some sense into her. She has no problems offending other religous decency beliefs because she knows that all they will do is protest, and in turn that protest generates free publicity for her. But not this time. I guess she just had to learn a cold hard lesson that music is not going to change the world (at least hers). .

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

I think its more that she seems to have no respect for the beliefs of some of these places. In the Philippines didn't she start out with the song that had got her into trouble there in the first place?

Also honestly, I am not sure that she projects the kind of image that should be the role model for anyone anywhere.

On the flip side though, I suppose that people could always just not go see her if they are offended by her.

-4 ( +4 / -9 )

Coward.

-10 ( +2 / -11 )

Just as expected. She basks in offending the Catholics in the Philippines (after all, all they do is protest, they don´t issue death threats), but she caves to the muslim zealots in Indonesia.

The religion of "peace" shows once again that might is right.

“There is nothing holy about hatred.” The best statement made about religion in a long time.
