They have been showing all the Bond movies on one of my cable channels for the past few months in honor of him turning ninety. He was the epitome of cool and smooth in all his roles. Hope he meets my mother up there because she was his number one fan. My wife is his number two and she is in shock. RIP.

Connery had the physique and looks for a "leading man". Lucky chap! He was the best of all the "thugs for hire", a killer "on Her Majesty's Secret Service".

RIP sir. Thanks for the excellent movies that entertained us.

Rising Sun wasn’t a big hit in Japan since it didn’t portray the Japanese in a positive light it was only released with very little fanfare.

I think the line that Sean Connery had when he said,The Japanese are the king perverts of the world’ didn’t do it any favors over here.

I remember when Connery appeared in Japanese whisky commercials....he certainly wasn’t called them greatest Scot’ at that time at least back home he wasn’t.

RIP.

He was sharp. Played the business end well. And didn't get caught up in the stupidity.

Accusations of domestic violence have been around for years. An interview with Playboy in the 60s and the infamous Barbara Walters interview in the late 80s, where he condoned slapping around women.

His ex-wife, Diane Cilento, in her autobiography claimed he was abusive towards her & knocked her unconcious.

Now, I liked his screen presence. And he was memorable in many other roles, besides Bond. But I can't ignore or justify his attitude towards women.

Am just surprised some people aren't aware of this - it's been out there for decades.

Again, great screen presence, iconic, talented and memorable - but certainly not a real man.

There is no escape from Sean Connery comments and attitude towards women, it dogged him all of his working life. Even in his passing.

RIP, Mr.Connery. A true legend and a real ladies man. All other Bonds are pale imitations, especially Daniel Craig.

I don't want to condone what he said or his general attitude to women, but he was talking about reacting to provocation. His attitude at that time seemed to be that it's OK to punch a man who is giving you a mouthful of abuse but only to slap a woman.

And although described as a ladies man, he did say once that he was more comfortable socially in the company of men. He seemed more of what was once described as a "man's man".

He seemed a stubborn person (in a good sense) and demanded to be treated fairly. One of his more interesting productions was a documentary about industrial relations in the shipbuilding industry in Glasgow, The Bowler And The Bunnet.

He did not bad for someone who was brought up in Fountainbridge, an area of Edinburgh where most of the stone tenements and the smelly brewery of his day have now gone.

The original and greatest Bond. A man's man and loved the hot ladies! Caught the middle of Goldfinger as a little kid and got hooked instantly. Dr. No was my other fav. Enjoy your martinis, not stirred of course, and thanks for the many suave memories.

I am in no instance belittling Sean Connery achievements or contribution to the film industry.

Neither am I passing judgement.

In "You Only Live Twice," James Bond tells Miss Moneypenny that he'll have no trouble with Japanese when he gets to Japan, having taken a first (I think it was) in Japanese as a student...I remember being amused when I heard that line dubbed into Japanese...

My late J-Wife loved Sean and I too. A gentleman and a perfect 007. None have surpassed him in that role.
