@Pukey
No. I wasn't emphasising religion for a minute. I just thought the "Beam me up" line was so obvious.

Great man. His character made him a legend and he himself was a legend as a man. Iconic and a recognizable figure all over the world, regardless of country, race or religion, everyone knew who Spock was. My deepest condolences to the family.
RIP Mr. Nimoy

Truly the end of an era.

Great actor !!!!
Darknet
At least he lived long enough to see his flagship role get passed on to another. Mr. Spock still lives.

OMG say it isn't so. You will be sorely missed. "I have been, and always shall be, your friend." He was a heavy smoker, but died from it many years after he quit.

Where is Project Genesis when you need it… RIP Leonard Nimoy. You will be missed.

RIP Leonard Nimoy. You truly did live long and prosper.

I loved his character in Star Trek and also outside the show in other performances. As a kid growing up, I felt that the world/universe in Star Trek was hopefully the real future with other beings on habitable worlds, advanced civilizations, space ships that could travel faster than light, oh those were the things that dreams are made of and Mr. Spock was probably my favorite actor on the show. Another thing that stood out about Star Trek was that society was egalitarian, no money needed, everyone has a job and meaningful purpose, able to have a good education and health care like surgeries without invasive procedures.
Mr. Nimoy will be missed.
Pukey2
I always preferred the original series. RIP.

Goodnight Mr Spock.
"I quit smoking 30 years ago. Not soon enough. Grandpa says, quit now!!"
Spock: Really, Dr. McCoy. You must learn to govern your passions; they will be your undoing. Logic suggests...
McCoy: Logic? My God, the man's talking about logic; we're talking about universal Armageddon!

Another one of the greats gone. Rest in peace Mr. Spock!

Beam me up, Scotty. Rest in peace, Mr. Nimoy.

Sweet dreams Leonard. You made so many people happy in your life, I pray you have peace now.

Undiscovered Country...
Spock: "History is replete with turning points, Lieutenant. You must have faith." Valeris: "Faith?" Spock: "That the universe will unfold as it should." Valeris: "But is that logical? Surely we must....." Spock: "Logic, logic, and logic..... Logic is the beginning of wisdom, Valeris, not the end."
Live long and.....

In search of? I think it was renamed Great Mysteries of the World here. He was perfect to host for the show. It brings back good memories of my youth, as does watching Star Trek. Not knowing the man outside of his performances, all I can say is that he seemed like a nice guy, was very talented, and he touched the lives of so many people around the world in a positive way. Not many can say that as they leave the building. RIP Mr. Nimoy, you will be missed.

Maybe Star Trek was from the 60s or 70s, but when I studied in the US in the mid 90s, it was a "cult show". When reruns were broadcast, everyone on the dorm floor was in the lounge watching. I guess the show was OK, but the event was more of a cultural experience for me.
MarkG
That's highly illogical captain. Star Trek was a good program.

RIP Mr. Nimoy. A sad day for the industry. But he lived a long and fruitful life, and blessed us with his presence on the screen not only in Star Trek, but other shows as well (after, though usually not for long periods of time). And I still love the wacky "Bilbo Baggins" song he made a long time ago (you can see a hilarious video on YouTube -- it's awful).

Even three decades after quitting smoking kills Spock.
lucabrasi
Remember the scene from "The Office" where Gareth gets all outraged at a pub quiz?
The question was "What race is Spock?"' the answer "Vulcan". Gareth's fury was brilliant: "No, no. Half Vulcan, half human!"

RIP great actor. I enjoyed your movies and your talent.

star trek was a big event as till then you had outer limits and the twilight zone - both showing individual short stories with varying casts.
but even then Nimoy already had a name - having appeared in many TV shows since the mid 50's and he had supporting parts in movies. i remember seeing him in reruns of Zombies of the Stratosphere at the movies (when they still had saturday matinees - 2 movies and a filler)
great actor, will be missed, but i am glad they found someone he was happy to pass the torch to

Trekkies...the true originators of "cosplay" and going almost 50 years strong now!
I was saddened to hear of his death, but when I found out he was 83...that's a pretty good run, all things considered.
I didn't really care for Star Trek, but when I was young, Nimoy was hosting a rather unknown show called "In Search Of..." where each episode focused on a different occult or supernatural/religious topic like "poltergeists, the Turin Shroud, Witch hunts of Salem and so on. I can safely say that it was this particular Leonard Nimoy program that changed my life, in that it made me ever curious to investigate the past, understand how biases become ingrained in rational thinking, and to coldly separate facts from superstitions when analyzing events or beliefs here on earth.
RIP, Leonard Nimoy, and thanks for the memories.

"My folks came to U.S. as immigrants, aliens, and became citizens. I was born in Boston, a citizen, went to Hollywood and became an alien."
You'll always live long and prosper in the hearts of your fans and in the fans yet to be born. RIP.

Good night Mr. Nemoy. You lived long, and certainly prospered with the legacy you've left behind. We'll miss you, so rest well.
SwissToni
He's been a hero since Star Trek was first broadcast. Going to miss him. Condolences to his family,
roosterman77
Great voice. I liked watching In Search Of... when I was a kid. I have never sat down to watch Star Trek but I know the lines and characters ... go figure? Must have been a powerful show! RIP
FizzBit
Gene Rodenberry tried, and Leonard jumped at the chance. There will be no peace in the world as long as humans continue to make decisions based on the local news paranoia, or the central intelligence agency's new scare tactic. Fools! Spock would say; "Wha da waste the human race turned out to be, following those oligarchs." Thank you Leonard for trying.

Star Trek is a cultural icon, as well as the characters in it. Many things hail from or are borrowed from it.
The last "Ballad of Bilbo Baggins" for Leonard Nimoy:

R.I.P. He lived long and prospered.

He should also be remembered for his efforts to warn people about the dangers of smoking. He lived long and prospered, but the after-effects of his smoking seriously reduced his quality of life.
Nicotine is the hook. Smoke is the dagger. **--Leonard Nimoy

It is nice they brought up his Jewish heritage as he never forgot it. Shatner by the way is Jewish too.
I will sit a private Shiva for your soul.

I will miss Leonard Nimoy, his Spock character was so great.
From Star Trek 5:
Kirk, after being beamed aboard a Klingon ship: I thought I was going to die. Spock: Not possible. You were never alone.
Kirk starts to embrace Spock
Spock: Please Captain, not in front of the Klingons.
Spock quotes:
It is curious how often you humans manage to obtain that which you do not want.
From Star Trek 2:
Mccoy: Are you out of your Vulcan mind? No human can tolerate the radiation in there. Spock: As you are so fond of observing, Doctor, I am not human.
JoiceRojo
As I 'm not fan of the Star Trek Series, I knew little of the character Spock, but I did know him through his character William Bell in the series "Fringe", still, you could feel Spock surfacing there too, LLAP Leonard Nimoy

RIP and thanks for the memories.
I think cosplay goes further back than ST like Carnival, Halloween, etc and further.
Pukey2
Why? Not everyone is religious.
maxjapank
No. You don't know that. Smoking is the main cause of COPD, but there are other causes, too.
