Leonardo DiCaprio, Nicolas Cage arrive in Japan

American actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Nicolas Cage arrived in Japan on Monday afternoon to promote their latest films. DiCaprio, 35, and Cage, 46, arrived separately on private jets and were both greeted by about 200 fans at Narita airport.

Cage, who is on his 7th visit to Japan and first in three years, said Japanese fans were very important to him. "My movies have always been well received here," he said. He will attend the Japan premiere for his new film, "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," at Odaiba on Wednesday night.

DiCaprio, who was last here in March for "Shutter Island," said he was happy to be back again with "a great movie," referring to "Inception." He was joined at Tuesday night's Japan premiere by co-stars Ken Watanabe and director Christopher Nolan.

"The Sorcerer's Apprentice" opens in Japan on Aug 13, while "Inception" opens nationwide next Saturday.

It is odd how DiCaprio jets around the world for his own needs, yet preaches carbon reduction and restrain on the rest of us.

Wow its Monday 1145 AM here..... how did that happen "afternoon"?

DiCaprio usually flies 1st class btw.... Must be the studio jet...

Suzu1 - great post on a huge hypocrite and crap actor. He can grow that cheesy goatee all he wants, but I still see nothing but a 16 year-old trying (and failing) to look like he belongs at the adult table at supper time.

Because it happened on Monday afternoon.

Today is Tuesday.

Hey- its Tuesday my2sense and Monday was Sunday and Saturday was Friday and I am officially the idiot of the day. Back to work on US time in Japan.

When will Nicholas Cage just give up? On the other hand and unlike Mr. Cage, kudos to DiCaprio for consistently choosing good roles in great films.

Don't get to the movie theater too often, but the favorable reviews (Rotten Tomatoes rating 85%) made sci-fi "Inception" look very interesting. DiCaprio's performance got decent reviews also.

He flew in a private jet to the world cup. Mr 'eco' lol

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Did he? I guess Suzi1 is right. This was on his wiki page.... I actually like the guy's movies but gee what's up with the hypocrisy?

A committed environmentalist, DiCaprio has received praise from environmental groups for opting to fly on commercial flights instead of chartering private jets. He has also mentioned that he drives a hybrid car and that his house has solar panels.

Quite frankly speaking, I wouldn't cross the street to see either of them.

Oh Leonardo, I sure hope your private plane had Bridgestone ECOPIA tires to land on.

You can see the CM for DiCaprio on YouTube, with his famous line, "Ecopia, we can change the world." I would luv to see a Japan reporter ask him about why he flew in a private jet. But it will not happen, the reporter will just giggle and laugh and say CUTE and KEWL a few times to him.

Hollywood is the world capitol of hypocrites, with Leonardo leading the pack.

Nicolas Cage....??? sorry, he is all washed up and his personal life a mess.

Saw advanced screen yesterday of Inception, it was a super complex story and watanabe's english was nearly impossible to understand at times.

Why is it every time a celebrity comes here everyone feels they need to get their political jabs in. Don't even start with the whole carbon emissions song and dance. Do you fly or drive or maybe catch the bus or train? Well however you look at it your contributing to carbon emissions. Get over it and quit always passing the buck. It is always so convenient to blame them for all our problems. When in reality everyone can help contribute to reducing our own carbon emissions. With that said and out of the way.

Leo is a fine actor and not your typical Hollywood socialite. In fact where in the world is Leonardo tends to be the usual question. He usually disappears off the face of the earth when not filming anyways lol. There is also another issue people are not considering here. The reason why a lot of celebrities don't take commercial flights is for security reasons. It creates alot of extra unnecessary work and headaches for airport personal which can be better used elsewhere. Things then can quickly get out of hand. So frankly I don't have a problem with them taking private flights.

Nick Cage is generally pretty entertaining no matter what he is in and Leo puts his heart into every performance so I say kudos to both of them and wish I could meet them both to congratulate them on robust careers.

I could do without alot of Nick's movies, only really enjoyed a few, but Leonardo...i agree with CapnSinbad, he does put his heart into his performances..

Great. More TV commercials equals money in the bank. What is ECOPIA anyway? And I'm sure they will be coming to Bistro SMAP again.

Thank you, ReikiZen. Just because people profess certain ideals doesn't mean they can live up to them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year even if they wanted to. What, does not having a 100% track record of doing so automatically make someone a hypocrite and a phony? Real life doesn't work that way.

Who knows what the situation was for DiCaprio coming over...where he was coming from, what time he had to be in Tokyo for whatever film-related activities, etc.? If the private jet (which was probably already coming with other people associated with the movie) was the only flight that worked for him coming over, then so be it.

Show me that the guy has a sustained pattern of not doing what he preaches, then I'll believe he's a hypocrite. Point out a few instances of him not doing so (with no context, like how many times he flies a year, what other means there were available for him to get somewhere when he had to be there, etc.), then it's just griping for the sake of griping.

Inception is getting good reviews. For a serious complicated action/drama film, it opened with a surprising $62M in the US.

“My movies have always been well received here,”

, and no where else. Cage has zero acting talent.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I liked Dicaprio in Catch Me If You Can and Nicolas Cage in Moonstruck. That's about it.

Cage was great in Honeymoon in Vegas:

At the casino -

Cage to casino staffer: It's very important that I win.

Casino staffer: I'll see what I can do.

yeah but blood diamond was great. it was well acted. he did a good enough job there. just pick your LEO movies more carefully in the future. He will do things not to your taste for sure because he caters to the young ladies most of the time but the guy has talent. blood diamond was really good like Pitt in Snatch.

I dont like either of them much either but Cage was great in Gods Of War.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ditto on Gods of War. But someone else could have done that, I think... I don't know who offhand, but Nick Cage plays Nick Cage in every movie he is in. He was even himself in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

By the way, why doesn't he switch back to Nicolas Coppola? It is no big deal now that everyone knows, so he ought to drop the comic book name.

I couldn't agree more with ReikiZen.

I want to watch this movie "inception", partly because of Leo, but mostly because it was directed by Christopher Nolan. And Leo is a good actor, I love him in "Gangs of New York" and "The Aviator" and "Catch me if You can" It took me a while to look at him past a pretty face from titanic (I think he does not do well in that one), but he earned "my respect" as an actor, since I saw him in "Total eclipse" and "This Boy's life"

0 ( +0 / -0 )

DiCaprio was great as Jack Dawson in Titanic.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I remember that Cage was my favorite thing about Moonstruck. He sold out big time with the likes of "The Rock" and "Con Air," but he couldn't even hang onto the money he got!

That receding hairline is revealing a giant "L".

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Cage was great in Gods Of War - bobbafett

Ditto on Gods of War - Klein2

Aren't you talking about Lord of War ? If that's the one, I saw it on the internet and it was entertaining.

I remember that Cage was my favorite thing about Moonstruck - blunderbuss

I liked most of the actors, I think it was well cast. Among them, Olympia Dukakis was great. I think it was the first time I saw Cage on screen. His later movies were not so great.

raising arizona, wild at heart, leaving las vegas, adaptation, bringing out the dead, bad lieutenant. all incredible perfomances. when he works with a great director he can be one of the best there is. bad lieutenant was last year, he's far from washed up.

nonsense. Geo or Tsutaya have any of these films.

Majority of Cage's output for the past 5 or 6 years has been naff, he has huge debts to cover his ridiculous spending and a Bruckheimer or two can bring in some easy cash. But he's still a fine actor when his heart is in a role.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I remember DiCaprio in Growing Pains, I think.

The first movie I saw Nick in was Race with the Moon, with Penn.

Was good and I though he would make it in Hollyweed.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I don't think very much of either of these actors. One of em is a huge hypocrite, the other is a nutcase. Still, they're both good actors, and have put out a lot of entertaining films over the years. I saw Inception, and have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised. It was a lot better then I thought it would be. Very convoluted story, but good. Haven't seen sorcerers apprentice yet. I'll probably get around to it in a week or 2.

I wonder how many Japanese fans (or American, for that matter) know "Inception" was partly inspired by the anime film "Paprika"? (good movie).

That aside, Leo's movie looks pretty awesome. Cage's looks...mildly entertaining. If only that supporting actor (I don't even know his name...) could do something about his voice.

two very overrated actors.

two very overrated actors.

but these are the men women dream about when lying on the beach ...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@bontakun Really? Did Nolan say that? 'Cause the concept for this movie has been brewing in his mind for a long time, way before Paprika (love that anime, btw). He finally had the chance to commit his vision to film after doing the 2 Batman movies.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Isn't Nolan overrated, to start with?
