Mai Asada turns classical music CD into best seller

A classical music CD, featuring Russian composer Arom Khachaturian's “Suite Mascarada,” is becoming a best seller since figure skater Mao Asada, 18, started using it in her performance in the free program at a tournament this month.

According to the Sankei paper, Asada released the CD in November together with her sister Mai, 20, who is also a figure skater. The paper reports that music shops have received more than 3,000 orders for the CD since Asada won at the Grand Prix in South Korea on Monday. The report says up to 10,000 CDs are expected to be sold.

I hope she is getting a cut from the sales.

or because of the cover?

It's definitely because she has used it in her routine.

When a song is used in something like that, or in a commercial, people go crazy and have to get it. Having worked in a music store for years, I know just how many people hear a song on a CM or on TV and rush out to get it.

Mai & Mao Asada release a CD (Actually,it appears as though EMI, or some other entity, released it using M&M to advertise / sell it). It becomes popular after Mao uses it in her routine. So why does the title of the article attribute the success to Mai?

10,000 is a "best seller"?

10,000 is a "best seller"?

in the era of Rapidshare, that's a good record.

Now was it Mai Asada that turned it into a best seller or the performance of her more famous and talented younger sister Mao Asada?

I hope this doesn't start the practice of paying athletes to use certain products during games.

Oh yeah, it's called sponsorship or legalized propaganda although I've always thought of it as bribing and coercing the public.

How about artists pay for all the songs used instead of receiving money to have it used.
