Haven't these people heard of DVDs? Or Internet streaming?

Wouldn't be surprised if the very same lawmakers who banned it are watching it at home. They have to accommodate the local moral police. I put this movie in the category of Wolf of Wall Street, though probably less well-made. It's a film that glamorizes the lives of predatory scum.

Can't think of a better way to promote this film in Malaysia (or anywhere else) than by banning it. Haven't these people heard of DVDs? Or Internet streaming?

Last time I went a night market in Kuala Lumpur, quite a few shops were selling DVDs. They even had a section for banned in Malaysia movies in plain sight.

For once Malaysian

conservatism has done a favor to its people. It's saved people from this movie

I do not even understand why other countries bother distributing cultural products there...

She has looks, sex appeal and that's it.

You say that like it's a bad thing. :)

Simple. When I go see a movie, I want to see good acting, dialog, script, humor, etc. As for music, the same thing. If the song isn't tuneful then the sexiest video can't mask that fact, just like there are good songs that have dull videos. After all, George Harrison summed up the ideal best when he said that the best thing you could say about the Spice Girls is that you could always watch their videos with the sound turned down ; )

And the best musicians female or male didn't get their critical praises or last the test of time just by emphasizing their good looks. Rolling Stones, anyone?

Grumpy old man complaining about younger generations, as though the Beatles were the first and last word in music.

Good example. The Rolling Stones pulled co-founder Ian Stewart out of the band (though he played on the recordings) because he was a bit older and didn't look the teen idol type. And if the Beatles were balding 40 year olds, how famous do you think their songs would be today? Pop music has always relied on youth and looks. Some good music has come out of it, still. But a lot more great music was never heard. If anything, I would say less attractive musicians get more audience share today, thanks to the internet and end of the stranglehold of record companies and TV.

Whether Malaysia is right to ban I don't know. But any effort to prevent the spread of the cancerous filth, violence, perversion and more coming out of Hollywood is wise.

Two of the most destructive influences on children and society: Hollywood and the Internet. Wise parents should monitor and restrict/guide children accordingly.

"Hustlers", a Jennifer Lopez film based on the real life exploits of a band of strippers who fleeced clients after having drugged them.

Obviously a theme of 'women's empowerment' and 'feminism' from the woke Hollywood community.

Bugle Boy of Company BToday 07:10 am JSTI'd ban it simply because it has Jennifer Lopez in it.

She has looks, sex appeal and that's it. No acting talent at all, music is meh.

Burning BushToday 07:14 am JSTI'm outraged.

We should all be outraged.

This is an outrage.

The movie may not be good but Malaysia's government is backwards and prudish. Let the citizens decide.

Censorship, in all its forms, is the mark of the authoritarian, the fascist and the petty little coward control freak. Those people need to be removed from ALL power.

Right on, starpunk! As much as I don’t agree with this decision, it’s still up to the people of Malaysia to the side. After all, it is their country. Just as we wouldn’t like it if the people of Malaysia wanted to try to tell people in our countries with films we can’t can’t watch, we shouldn’t do the same to them.

I'd ban it simply because it has Jennifer Lopez in it.

Can't they just ban Muslim Malays from entering the cinemas? After all, laws applied to citizens are different depending on whether they're Muslim or not. Just let the ethnic Chinese and Indians in if they want to see the film.

We should all be outraged.

Why? I'm not Malaysian.
