Marcia's family history to be revealed on NHK documentary

Did anyone tape this show or know where I can get a copy of it? My wife really wanted to see this show but missed it. Thanks

Wow, age has finally caught up to her. Marcia was one hot number when she hit the "talent scene about 20 years ago. Cash flow must be low for her to sell her family story.

I remember seeing this 'talent' on a quiz show about Brazil many years back. Didn't answer any of the questions correctly.

They did this sort of thing on PBS here in the states tracing the background of a few celebrities and other prominent people. PBS of course is pretty classy; this, being Japanese television will probably involve someone getting whacked in the nether regions with a squeaky hammer.

NHK, which used to produce really world-class documentary series, has seriously cut back its budget, and production values have plummeted. Some of their most interesting recent series, like "Mission" (about people/organizations trying to effect various social changes) and "The Star" (two-hour episodes delving into the lives and work of some of Japan's most venerable performers), are ruined for me by the use of superfluous guests, "talento" hosts and hostesses, and cheezy CGI sets. The content is great, the presentation is just not what it used to be.

My expectations for the commercial broadcasters are near zilch these days, but I used to have more respect for at least a good portion of NHK programming.

Ugh. Terrible. How can people watch this tripe and treacle? The food shows with the obligatory hand in front of the face and OISHII! And the crying. The whole thing is bizarre. I guess their polls show that people like that sort of thing.

There is some humor in it though. Think about what it does for the work load of the tarento. They can't just sit back and sip tea while the video plays... they actually have to participate, emote, and "care" about 10 times a day. Serves em all right.

I caught someone talking last night about how GREAT J-Pops girl groups are. 7 members? 48 members? What?

The whole J pop culture scene is mass-produced pap. It has gotten to the point that I never bother to look at the product anymore, I just look at the business end of it and see them squeezing every dime out of the public they can. I am sure that they do the same.

For instance, why is Marcia so keen to reveal her family history? Obviously because she wants to make a comeback (more money) and does not care if she has to give up her privacy to do it. There is nothing interesting about it, and she can only afford these manzai guys as hosts, so I am guessing it will center on her father. This will pull the sympathy strings and get some money flowing to Marcia Inc.

You do know they do that so you, the viewers, don't have to, right? They do the crying so you don't have to. You get to sit and have someone else do the crying and go thru all the emotions for you; thus your emotions don't get drained.

See how thoughtful they are?

This is the number one reason why, when the NHK guy comes knocking at my door I'm mysteriously not home. Why did they mess it up, with comedians ????

Garage Sale are both from Okinawa and if I'm not wrong most Japanese who went to South America were from there, so maybe that has something to do with them hosting the show.

When she saw the footage while the program was being taped, Marcia broke out into tears. At the end of the session, Marcia commented, “My father gave me the power to live.”

Oh... I saw the headline and I was hoping it was Marcia Brady. I came here looking for juicy tidbits about Greg and Peter, and it is all about some burnt-out Japanese tarento.

Well, I can finally breath again! I've been waiting for this for so long! ;)

Ahem. A serious documentary needs to be 'hosted' by two comedians? Why not just provide the documentary without bloating such shows with hosts/navigators/commentators/panels etc etc. I know this is the Japanese way, but less = more sometimes.

My FM radio also picks up NHK. There is no way I'm missing this.

Looks very pretty and a lot younger for her age.
