We bust on Japan's sexism when it comes to the fire brigade, but the U.S. isn't much different. The majority of the women involved with the fire departments never man a hose during a fire. Yes, there are women firefighters, but the number is exceedingly small due to the physical requirements that must be met. As a firefighter, you're wearing heavy clothing, you might be required to wear a Scott airpak on your back, and you must maintain control of at least a 1 1/2" hose charged with water under high pressure. Those cartoons of an unattended firehose whipping around like a crazed snake are not too far from the truth.

I don't understand why they don't use women who are actually in the fire brigade to help recruit women.

No mention of what specifically people should do to prevent fires. If "everyone can contribute in some way", perhaps a few ways could be mentioned.
