Mariah Carey to provide theme song for NTV baseball telecasts

Nippon Television Network (NTV) announced this week that American singer Mariah Carey, 38, will provide the theme song for the network's professional baseball telecasts. The new song, “Lovin' you long time,” comes from Carey's album “E=MC2,” due to be released on April 16.

NTV has been getting low ratings for its baseball telecasts. NTV sports producer Kengo Okada said: “In 2008, the popularity of professional baseball will bounce back. I hope the song will attract viewers who are not big fans of baseball. We're counting on the Yomiuri Giants and Mariah."

Carey was quoted by her agent as saying: “I hope everybody enjoys the baseball together with my song. Ai shite masu!" (I love you!)

"In 2008, the popularity of professional baseball will bounce back. "

Mixing metaphors?

Anyway, both teams here are scraping the bottom of their respective barrels . . .

"American singer Mariah Carey, 38,"

That's right, she's 38 for those of you who didn't know - and DON'T FORGET IT. But I am wondering how old "NTV sports producer Kengo Okada" is.

Does she know what E=MC2 means? Well, I guess the title isn't as bad as Beyonce's Bidet.

'Love you long time'...is she taking the piss?

"Carey’s agent was quoted as saying: “I hope everybody enjoys the baseball together with my song.)"

Did Carey's agent write the song so that he could call it 'my song'?

And what is it with the incorrect use of prepositions? 'Loving you long time' should be 'Loving you A long time' and 'enjoys the baseball' could be 'enjoys baseball' (or 'enjoys the baseball season'). I'll let the song title slide because art is art but the agent should be able to use prepositions properly.

(potentially offense content.. prepositions?)

Add 'incompetent' to the list of words the commentblog doesn't like.

What's being 38 got to do with it? Nothing, let's keep to the facts, Mariah's middle-of-the-road pop and baseball's a boring game...

Anyone thinking Mariah's song will revitalize baseball has got to be smokin something.

I'd go to the game if there was the chance to see Mariah Carey take the first ceremonial hit by pitch.

"I hope everybody enjoys the baseball together with my song"

That sounds awfully like her statement was translated into Japanese, then retranslated back to English.

Perhaps if NTV promised to show broadcasts right to the end or showed other teams as well as the Giants it might do more than some boring MOR song to bring viewers back.

And pedants should know the difference between a preposition and an article.
