If anyone was still wondering if rock and roll was dead.
Theres your answer..
Christopher Mas Osan
Mary J. Blige, Not a rock performer.
Mariah Carey, Not a rock performer.
Cher, Not a rock performer.
Sade, Not a rock performer.
Oasis Grunge/Rock Okay.
Ozzy Osbourne The ultimate rock performer.
On this song alone. Ozzy should have his name on the top of the glass Pyramid for all time.

The rock and roll hall of fame is a really bad joke.
For those that downvoted, have the guts and rationale to explain why Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, etc., belong.
TokyoLiving
Ozzy is the only real rocker of them..
Rock is dead..
Clown world..

I understand, but when you look at sales per unit and overall worldwide popularity, all of these performers blow Ozzy out the water and I like Ozzy, but from a sheer global perspective and reach, he comes nowhere lose to this people.

It's not the largest sales / most popular musical performer HOF.
Christopher Mas Osan
You can go on about sales. Popularity. Units sold. Net worth's. Analytical study this and that.
The fact is. The above artist are not even involved with Rock Music unless its a Collab, or live thing.
Do not get me wrong I have every single Sade record she ever published. I listen to them allot lately. She is amazing.
The others I can pass on including Oasis. Never really a fan.
But Ozzy, Sabbath. He has influenced so many.
I will say it again. His name needs to be etched in the glass on the side of the building.
He is the GOAT. And he is not going be around much longer. And that saddens me.

Dunno if Ozzy deserves to get in as a solo artist. What's it for? "Over the Mountain"? I can't think of that many great solo Ozzy songs.
Are Rainbow in? Motorhead? It took Rush years to get in, and they have way more great songs than Ozzy.
Christopher Mas Osan
@ kohakuebisu
Rush sold 42 Million
Ozzy solo career sold 66.7 Million sold.

If they want want to cater to the pedantic, maybe they should rename this.
I wouldn’t bother and just carry on giving awards to successful artists.
All successful and you could make a case for them.
Fair enough.
Jimizo
Grunge? Really?
I always think of ‘Britpop’ or power pop when I think of Oasis - particularly in their most successful years.
MilesTeg
Ozzy also had Crazy Train and No More Tears which are actually decent songs but beyond them, there isn't much else. He's clearly getting in from his Sabbath days.

So let's hear your case why Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Cher, Eric B. & Rakim, etc., belong in the rock HOF when there's a pop HOF and a soul HOF. Based on this 'logic' why bother categorizing music at all. We don't need to call it rap, jazz, classical, electronic, etc. Just call everything...music...LOL!

I guess we all have our own images of "rock music". There's hard rock, jazz rock, folk rock, punk rock, blues rock, etc.
Right now, my pick from the list of nominees would be Peter Frampton. (I'll probably change my mind in a few hours.)

At this rate, the lot of us will be inducted by 2026.

Just because Billy Joel said it's still rock n roll to him, doesn't mean it's actually rock n roll.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame means nothing until Milli Vanilli have been inducted.

You forgot classical rock. Beethoven and Bach were serious rockers. (That's known as sarcasm, in case you were in doubt.)

Motorhead was nominated once and they invented thrash. Why ain't they on the list again? Same for Iron Maiden, MC5, NY Dolls. Slade hasn't been on the nomination list yet. Soundgarden? Anthrax?
Yes we do. That's why I think that Ozzy, Oasis and Sade are good contenders, but I thought influence was a factor too and what influence did these acts leave, and on whom?
One good live album with an overlong boring 10 minute song that uses the talk box way too damn much. Sorry, but that just doesn't qualify in my book IMHO.
This HOF has become such a joke. Even Steve Miller said that and he ain't done nothing worth the bother for over 40 years himself.

Foreigner 'soft rockers'? I remember in 1981 when their '4' album came out critics dubbed them as 'heavy metal'. Then again so was REO Speedwagon.
Before MC the word 'diva' meant a woman singer who sings with emotion and gusto. After 1990 and MC's debut the word 'diva' became pejorative, almost a cuss word. And much of it came from her ego and 'prima donna' demeanor as well as her marriage to the CBS record label head Tony Mottola.
You want more women in the HOF? How about the Bangles? X has a woman lead singer. The B-52'a, more women. Roxette, a man-woman duo. There's also Julianne Hatfield. Soon the Plasticenes from France will be eligible. Shonen Knife is long eligible. Women!
Kool and the Gang needs to be in it. They're best known for their only #1 classic 'Celebrate!' but they scored many more hits than that. They've been around longer than ME. I saw them rehearsing in May 2019 in an outdoor arena , gearing up to play with a local symphony orchestra. They were as good as they ever were.
'Funk rock'? KATG is a prime example if there ever was one. At least they finally got nominated and they truly deserve this.

'Funk rock'? KATG is a prime example
He said "folk rock", not funk rock. Can you imagine what folk rock might be? Joan Baez having a bit of a croon and then suddenly breaking out into some head banging in the chorus, backed by a wild drummer and electric guitarist suddenly going nuts? No, I don't think so. Folk and rock are like budgies and alligators: similar in the most basic sense (types of music & types of creature living on Earth). The similarities become more elusive after that.
