Not sure if Gibson can improve on Peckinpah's classic. No doubt there will be lashings of blood and gore etc.

The classic had a great cast for sure. I'm sure the story can be bettered and Mel just might be the guy to pull it off. He ain't "directed" a bad movie in my book.

I'm not opposed to remakes, if they're any good. Depends on the script, the director, the cast.

True Grit was an example of a decent remake (by the Coen Brothers) in that it was closer to the book and did not try to slavishly ape the John Wayne effort.

Hopefully he'll keep his wilder excesses out of this effort and all will be good.

Ageing white dudes, nostalgic for a mythical past seek redemption by killing hundreds of evil Mexicans.

Hardly a market for that story now is there ?

Paustovsky, your virtue signalling credentials are intact.

Argh - when you put it that way, maybe Gibson should leave it the hell alone. Besides. He's already done the murderous Mayans thing with Apocalypto.

Still, dodgy possible subtexts aside - TWB is one of the best westerns. It might not be one of the best Peckinpah's, though. I'd go for either The Ballad of Cable Hogue or Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. The former's David Warner surely a huge influence on Johnny Depp's Captain Jack?

Paustovsky, there have been literally hundreds of movies made by "white dudes" about "white dudes" going to war against other "white dudes".

Is it now verboten by, order of PC, to make films anout "white dudes" fighting against non-"white dudes"?

Seeing as such films are still made and this one has got the go ahead from the studio; the answer is no, it's not forbidden.

I'm very interested in hearing more about this mythical pc order which promises so much but seems rather ethereal when it comes to actual physical manifestation.
