He is one of the very greatest. An actor who brought life to the screen.

There are few legends left in the movie world, but he is most certainly one of them!!

A truly remarkable actor!!

Legendary actor.

A very long colourful career.

A giant in the acting world.

And now a writer too!

Wise decision from a top actor. I'm afraid Caine is now a bit too long in the tooth.

I honestly think that it is the height of conceit to announce something like that. Reminds me of all the football qb's who "announce their retirement" and then play again the next year. Why don't you just NOT ACT, Michael and leave it at that? Do you think that we are all on the edges of our seat awaiting your 90 year old grand entrance?

Haha. I guess it gives him the opportunity to say "thanks" and "goodbye".

I honestly think he has more than earned the right to announce his retirement from an industry he has dedicated a lifetime to, and one in which he is held in the highest esteem by his peers.

wish he has a happy retirement and good health!

I think it was more of a case of the movies leaving Caine than Caine leaving the movies.

Arguably, the last of the iconic actors, but what a CV.

Zulu, Ipcress File, Alfie, The Italian Job, Get Carter, The Man Who Would Be King, The Eagle Has Landed, A Bridge Too Far, Educating Rita.

Definitely an all-time great. I loved the part he played as a cross-dressing psycho doctor in that movie with Nancy Allen and Angie Dickinson, who is also in her nineties and still kicking, I believe. Can't remember the name Guess I could google it .

I would say that was Clint.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels deserves to be mentioned, its a classic.

The Great Escaper was absolutely brilliant. If that's to be Michael Caine's swansong then he's leaving on a high note.

Great movies indeed, bit you forgot his best - Sleuth.

And of course I meant the original with Olivier, not the pale imitation with Jude Law.

He used to go out partying with Peter O'Toole in the sixties and was mates with John Wayne. The stories he must have.

I would say that was Clint.

Fair point. Sophia Loren is still going, as is Robert Redford, Anthony Hopkins.

I think it was more of a case of the movies leaving Caine than Caine leaving the movies.

I disagree, he's still lucid and in great shape. He's been in and out of retirement for years depending on the scripts he gets.

It wasn't any form of criticism. But like Caine himself said,

"The only parts I'm liable to get now are 90-year-old men. Or maybe 85."

"They're not going to be the lead. You don't have leading men at 90".

Good for him! He should be doing things he enjoys, whatever those are.

The first movie I REMEMBER seeing him was Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Haven't seen that in a bit. Think I'll suggest it to watch tonight.

Simply the best. So many great performances in fabulous films. Alfie, The Italian Job, Get Carter, Pulp, The Man Who Would Be King, The Ipcress File, Sleuth, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Dressed to Kill, Escape to Victory…………..

He once said that this was how he decided if he would take a movie part. He read the first page of the script and the last page. If his character was in both, he did the movie.

Always recognizable.

This is probably at least the fifth time he has announced his "retirement" in the past 20 years
