Sad loss, a vey fine classical actor. I still clearly remember him in the Singing Detective. One of the better Potter works.
Few actors of his quality.

Yes, The Singing Detective and The Cook...., both great roles. And of course Longitude, where he played the role of John Harrison. He was utterly wasted in those damn Potter movies.

A very entertaining actor.

A truly wonderful actor. 'The Singing Detective' was a TV landmark. He was just so good in it.

Was interested in Peter Greenaway's films and Gambon's performance in the Cook the Thief really stood out. RIP.

We’re losing all the greats recently…So sad. May he Rest In Peace.
(As for Gambon as Dumbledore, a lot of children learned of who he was from the Potter films, and became fans of his. So hardly “wasted” in the role. He brought his own wonderful and unique charm to the character.)

The Harry Potter movies are not specially bad, but I consider a little sad that Gambon is remembered by more people because of his roles in them than by the rest of his works.

The "Singing Detective" was the first great role I saw him in. A skilled actor of many parts - loved his small, sinister role in "The Insider", a great story starring the feisty duo of Russell Crowe and Al Pacino. His acting days were already over, but sad to see him depart so soon. RIP
