Michael Jackson's 'This Is It' DVD rakes in Y1.6 billion in one day

I've never really understood the fascination by the Japanese with this man. But it sounds like his estate is in for a big payday!

I'll tell you the fascination that the Japanese people have with Michael Jackson, they knew the type of man he was,unlike the Americans who rely on tabloids to furnish them with their news. The American media and the American public started a witchhunt, and it carried on right up until his death. Unlike Americans, the Japanese people trust their instincts, and do not read tabloid trash. I am an American, and I have seen the injustices that were committed against Mr. Jackson, without any evidence, the American public and the media tried, convicted, and sentenced an innocent man. He was innocent when the charges were levied, and he was innocent when he died. Michael loved and respected the Japanese people, as they did him. Thank you Japan for your unwavering love for Michael, he deserves it! May God cover you Michael!

ilcub76 -- maybe the Japanese fascination is the same as millions of folks worldwide. He was a once-in-a-generation type talent who became an icon based on his incredible combination of skills -- singing, dancing, song-writing, showmanship, etc. His performance back in '83 at the Motown 25th anniversary was quite possibly the seminal moment of that decade, even Fred Astaire said he was the best dancer he'd ever seen. But my guess is that you haven't seen "This Is It", so your comment is simply based on ignorance. Am I right?

Without going too overboard, I admit Michael was a special telent. I don't think we need the bashers or the over-praisers. He was what he was, a talented entertainer who sang ageless hit songs for all generations.

A good dancer, yes. But his actual music was basic '80s cookie-cutter crap for the masses. He was famous for being famous more than anything. Whats annoying is that his fans fell for his "I love the world" act, while ignoring his pedophilia.

It is amazing (or is it disgusting?) how many people continue to perpetuate the horrid lies spewed by the tabloids and media, particularly on this board, especially when the truth can be found with a little bit of research and common sense, for example the court documents and not one single person who has ever worked with Michael has anything negative to say about him as a person. I am not even going to try to refute all the stupid ignorant things people say, but for those who are even half listening, I just want to point out that This Is It is not just the title of Michael’s concert referring to his final curtain call. It is also referring to the strong environmental message he had intended in the concert, which is, our mismanagement of the planet is not only destroying this precious world in every way, but that the destruction is irreversible. If each and every one of us doesn’t act responsibly and start making changes, this is it for the planet. This is it for the future of our children. If you in your ignorance, wish This Is It, is really it without understanding the message, then it is a truly a sad reflection of who you are. I for one do not wish this will be it for our world and the generations to come.

For those who keep saying MJ is weird, if you start working at 11, performing until past three in the morning, never having a normal bed time and no wonder his constant insomnia, becoming a millionaire while still a kid, and mobbed everywhere you go, I do wonder how UN-weird you would be.

I do not go gaga over Michael like a lot of fans do, but I love Michael because I find him inspiring ways (especially in the arts, his humility, and humanitarian work). If I can use MJ's songs such as Earth Song for discussion classes and students come back after a few days and say, wow, I've never thought about this or didn't know that before, but now I want to learn more, then I think the song (& Michael) has done its work. So for the haters out there, if you are unwilling to look at a person with the eyes of your heart, then fine. But let the rest of us who are inspired be inspired and make the world a better place without saying all the negative things just for the sake of saying it or to put someone down.

I saw 'This is it' recently. MJ totally still had 'it.'

He was still awesome - even at 50.

Before he died, they called him a loon.

After he died, they called him a great.

I don`t really know which one he was but the above is one huge gap.

Michael Jackson's music and giving spirit will live on through his fans and record sales no matter what some haters think of him. He had a worldwide fanbase and the respect of many of the world's leaders. People that don't like Michael Jackson will hear about him in the news for decades to come, so they might as well get used to it. He was the greatest entertainer of all time and will remain the King of Pop forever.

It would be such a crying shame, if any of the wonderful talent of mankind, was, even in part - disregarded because of mankinds infinite errors. Let beauty, all 'goodness', always redeem whatever faults there are. That doesnt mean that there must be no retribution for faults, only to make sure that darkness, evil, doesnt 'win'! - and that the best may be permitted to shine through, whatever the worst may be. I have heard people say, who I would never imagined in any 'pop' scenario, that the movie is remarkable and very entertaining. I hope you all enjoy it.
