Mino Monta to leave 'Omoikkiri TV' in March after 20 years

TV personality Mino Monta, 64, will leave NTV's infotainment program “Omoikkiri TV” in March after having hosted the program for 20 years. Monta announced his decision on the program recently.

Monta, who was listed in the Guinness World Records for the most hours on live TV in one week in 2006 and 2008, said, “I have been discussing when to quit with my staff for the past year because I had surgery for back problems. I announced the decision during the program so there would be no rumors. Anyway, it's time to pass the torch on to the next generation."

A spokesperson for NTV said “Omoikkiri TV” will be terminated and a new program will be launched.

OMG! Omoikkiri TV will never be the same without Mino Montasan! I also think he looks half drunk etc..in the morning shows, but I also moring shows and it ain't no fun waking up at 4 am and trying to sound intelligent in Japanese when your brain can't even fully function in my native Spanish nor English! So let's give this old dude a break. I wonder if Omoikkiri tv needs any young, funny Mexican tv announcers like me??

As he says he only sleeps 2-3 hours a day, maybe NOW he can get a nap in during the day!

All of you who are "Can't stand the man!" - shut up! He works hard, and has the balls to speak his mind instead of tip-toeing around like other so-called talento! At least this man has some talent! The younger generation of presenters on TV here these days are pure garbage! I applaud the man for his strong work ethic and tenacity! Shame those of you who express such dislike for him don't have the same!

Do miracles happen? I thought the guy would never leave.

A little late, but this news is certainly a Christmas gift.

I wish he would stop the morning news too. He always seems half-drunk and just rambles on angrily without a real point. And it's not even funny.

Hooray! Now retire from all your other shows. Mino Monta is so dull. His popularity has always been a mystery to me.

You've made enough money out of the show...so buzz off Mino Monta!

The comment I tried to add may have been too critical. Let me try again.

I can still remember when he had Governor Ishihara on his show talking about gaijin hanzai. Ishihara spoke very wisely, so Mino Monta therefore had no reason to ask questions such as "Where the hell do you get these statistics?" or "How does race have anything to do with this?" He just listened to the wise words animatedly. He did a very good job doing this.

Who says there is never any good news?I heard he is moving on to his next career as a professional train groper and if that doesnt work he ll be a leather bag.

I'm glad he's going too, can't stand him. He seems to be one of the least reputable television presenters around. Much of the "advice" about medical, health and nutrition problems from his show have been viewed as very questionable by some people in the media.

Plus he was hosting another show a few years back that was an entire set up, everything was completely fake including the tears from the girls who had been under some severe "hardships".

Most of his act seems to be sympathetic face pulling to tug at the emotional heartstrings regardless of whether the story has little value or not.

I'll be releasing a sigh of relief when he goes.

let`s see if we can get him off even more programs. cannot stand the man.

Cost cut. Glad there is no reference to financial meltdown, subprime mortgage or credit crunch.

There seems to be no torch left. NTV extinguished the flame.
