I like the new moon person. I cannot see any objection to it.

'Moon Person'. Is it a male astronaut or a female one? Oh, I know! It comes from the same planet that Ziggy Stardust comes from. The people there are all asexual.

And in real life David Bowie was a pioneer in videos and the rise of MTV. He advertised for it anyway by saying, 'Too Much Is Never Enough'.

It revolutionized everything. Radio was pretty restrictive and boring. MTV made contemporary music fun and innovative again. Punk, funk, new wave, glam metal, rap, techno and later grunge and electronica. It also had a bad influence in promoting acts that emphasized image over musical talent like the stupid vapid pop tarts of today. That's the price of an innovation. After all, when Elvis became such a god of the 'new music', he inspired a lot of great artists and a lot of hacks. Such is life.

I want my MTV!

The Police said 'I want my MTV!' before Dire Straits did, and they SHOUTED it out!

Its sobering to realize that MTV is now older than World War 2 was when MTV debuted.

I can’t complain so much. Everyone could find something according to own music taste. The best I remember, MTV Grind , was so very hot, a beach party directly in your living room. lol

That is part of the appeal and joy. MTV's 'shows' featured concerts by artists the radio was too ninny to play, and they opened the door to many 'underground' bands like the Smthereens for instance. 'Party Zone', all that jive. And it resulted in many other music video networks and shows on other channels as well. VH-1, CMT, more. MTV is a milestone but looking back at it all now you can see it was inevitable. It's debatable who or what made the first 'music video' but the Beatles made their movies and 'promotional films' (like that for 'Strawberry Fields') and then Queen and ELO made a 'video album' for VCRs for their 1979 album 'Discovery'.

MTV is a r/evolution. Looking back to 1981 there were already many videos being made, in that year it was an idea whose time had come but it was a long time coming. And now every musician makes videos of some sort. It's a given. Video certainly did kill the radio star.
