Music video for Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s 'Maybe Baby' is retro-revival eye candy

J-pop icon and fashion leader Kyary Pamyu Pamyu has posted a wonderful new animated music video on her YouTube channel for "Maybe Baby," the opening theme song for the anime "Ninjala" which was released in January.

With its appealing vaporwave retro-revival feel, the music video is really memorable and perfectly matches the catchy song written, composed, and produced by Yasutaka Nakata.

If the character design looks familiar, they're by up-and-coming illustrator Kayoubi (Asobisystem). Known for a nostalgic retro-revival style (inspired by manga artists and illustrators who made their mark in the 80s and 90s, like Seizo Watase, for example), Kayoubi is active in a wide range of fields including collaborations with apparel brands.

The cute animation loop of the girl's chaotic journey through various worlds was created by video director and rapper Takeru Shibuya (ODD JOB).

If you haven't seen it yet, the previously released Official Lyric Video can also be viewed below:

With her first full-length album in three years, "Candy Racer," Kyary is still going strong after ten years. She is currently on a 30-show tour titled "Kyary Pamyu Pamyu 10th ANNIVERSARY JAPAN TOUR 2022 CANDY WAVE," her largest tour yet.

Kyary comes to Cali: Coachella and Solo Concert in April

As fans surely know, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu announced that she will be appearing at Coachella this year, finally realizing her plans to perform there which she had to cancel in 2020.

And if that weren't exciting enough, today she announced plans to have a solo concert at LA's Fonda Theater on April 18.

It must be bad when even K-Pop is making more inroads in the international market.

I shared a taxi with her several years ago. She was delightful.

Yawn....

Another pop tart diva, lip-synching, excessive choreography and shaking the booty. Zzzzzzzzzzzz......

Nile Rogers produced and engineered tapes to make Madonna's voice 'chirpy' on the 'Like a Virgin' album. He doesn't like that album much, he said so. Of course we all know she lip-syncs on stage, like all these pop tarts do. Including Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. And she will appear at a 'solo' concert at Coachella this spring in L.A.

SOLO - as in just herself on stage lip-synching and gyrating to a CD played in the backroom. No-no thank you, I ain't gonna go-go.

Jesus wept.

My name ain't 'Jesus', and I don't claim to be the 'Chosen One' because I know that I'm not. But having a BA in Computer Science and having worked in computer animation and sound manipulation, I know how this 'music' is manufactured. What tape manipulations once did, software does the job for the vocals and if you can program a drum machine you've got your product. And that's what passes for popular music today, and that's enough to make anybody cry, any grown man cry and that includes Jesus Christ himself!

My ears are bleeding.

I'm not a musician or songwriter but I could write better music than this if I drank a coke, tea, or coffee laced with LSD, XTC, mescaline, DMT, STP or psylocibin. This is junk.

The beat is very catchy.

I think my only problem with this is the voice, I prefer deeper voices, Kyary sounds too baby-ish but I guess that's her voice.

Yeah, I'll take quality over quantity in this case, thanks. Japan just needs the asian market, where it counts.
