Okinawan singer Namie Amuro had to end her concert suddenly on Sunday night after complaining of a sore throat. She was performing at Yokohama Arena at the time, reported Nikkan Sports.
She left the stage after performing six songs and didn't return.
According to a doctor, Amuro, 34, is suffering from acute upper respiratory inflammation. She is expected to be able to sing at her next scheduled concert on Nov 12 at Marinemesse Fukuoka. She will make up for the Yokohama concert with a repeat performance on Dec 27, officials said.

Did she suddenly realize that she has no talent or were she aware of it all this time?
nath
I think she is a wonderful singer and a beautiful woman. Unique looking.
soldave
Surprised she wasn't diagnosed with stress; seems to be the all-encompassing diagnosis in Okinawa at least.
NetNinja
Oh poor baby. Hey, where's Sam? Tsk Tsk, 15 minutes of fame came and went.
Gurukun
At least she didn't pull some Milli-vanilli crap. (^^)
nath
That's the good and bad thing about pop music; no musicians who solo forever, to pick up the slack for the vocalist!
6 songs of all singing is tough, with a sore throat!

Several million-selling records including Japan's best-selling single by a solo female artist, one of the longest-surviving popular female acts in Japan. Can't say she's to my particular taste, but I very much doubt her '15 minutes of fame' is up yet on account of a sore throat.
The Emperor and his granddaughter have both succumbed to seasonal infections; no reason to suppose singers are immune.
Get well soon, Namie.

Wow, why all the cruel comments? She may not be a diva, but she's a reasonably talented artist that has had huge success in Japan.
Still, I have come to realize that it is the bitter, unsuccessful, talentless people that usually make such comments. You know who you are!
Nessie
She has icantsingtosavemylife-itis. Chronic.
gyouza
Agreed - but seems to be the norm here. She is not my cup of tea, but no reason to doubt she is sick - not as if the hall was emtpy!
I think people post the cruel stuff here because there is no comback, but they would never say it to the persons face - kind of cowardly.

No matter what the news story is, the majority of comments on this site will be negative or criticising.
Hopefully Namie will bounce back from the throat ailment and perform for her fans again soon!
cactusJack
I am no doctor but how about Vicks throat lozenges?
Jared Norman
everyone gets sick, she's a great singer, why the hate
nath
For such a small girl, she has a powerful voice and never sings flat or off key.
The haters will always be here. Good to see many non-haters for once.

Gorgeous and truly talented singer, dancer, and model. Amurochan, I'm still waiting for your call. Get well soon.

I hope she recovers completely and as soon as possible.

Please marry me, go foreigner this time Namie

Hear, hear Cleo. Well said. Once again, very amusing to see all the bitternes and jealousy on this website. Her music is not my cup of tea either, but i cannot help but have respect for someone who has sold so many records in what is the second biggest market for music in the world. Get well soon.

Japan's 12th best selling music act of all time. Sorry, but no. Namie herself is nearly impossible to dislike, even if her music isn't to your taste. Great, consistent performer and singer.

Surely the guy with the Steve Jobs avatar is still thinking that Jobs is a god of the computers... well.. is not the theme, but maybe he is as wrong as his fact of the 15 minutes of fame, Namie is famous a long, long time, I liked her music in her youths when she had no more rival than Ayumi Hamasaki and maybe it was declined at 2005 and her "Queen of Hip-Hop" persona, but as long as I know, japanese artists are more susceptible to report illness than to be in drug or sexual scandals as american artists (at least my favorite ones like Ayumi or Hikki are having ear problems...)... maybe the guy should put some Namie in his ipod and find out why she is famous... or stop posting bad comments in this page...

Juan Carlos Barbosa Padilla @ Maybe if she did drugs like say the every artist that had talent she would be talented. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDLyIbdwxXg We wouldn't have had good music without it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J10w3FuCwfQ

Amuro Namie has definitely won the hearts of many fans that have come to know her music is not only a accomplished singer, but has mastered the art of stage performance and her training in dance is evident in her performance and music videos. She captures the hearts of her audience by the graceful animation of her stage personality and understands how to maximize the presentation of her vocal presentation of her vocal arrangements. Through her choreographic routine of her dance, she creates a complete artistic presentation of her musical material. Hence her successful musical recording career has been accented by her continued public presence and touring. So Namie, ganbatte kudasai.

Obvious this is the Namie Amuro fan club. Oh I walked into the wrong lobby. Pretty voice, nice body, lots of TV ads, good record sales.
Unfortunately, as none of you seem willing to balance your own argument here. I'll help you out. Your short term memory is very convenient for a woman like Namie Amuro who destroyed her family. She had a secret relationship with Atsushi from London Boots. She did great harm to her family and of course they had children together.
Sorry we don't agree but I have no respect for the reckless, selfish Okinawan that is somewhat unfaithful. I put her right up there with Koda Kumi has also has an ugly past.
I don't hear you guys talking about that. I like someone who is honorable on and off stage. It's amazing how a few Coke commercials and a good PR campaign can brainwash you all into thinking she's some sort of princess with an angelic voice.
That's a homewrecker IMO
soldave
Replace Namie Amuro with Justin Bieber (sp?) if he comes to Japan and backs out of a concert after 6 songs. Am sure the majority of comments would be equally as forgiving.
Or would they...
borscht
NetNinja,
Could you link to a source of Amuro having more than one child? I hadn't heard of she and Atsushi having 'children'. I know she has a son with Sam (Son of Sam? uh oh.) And I don't think their relationship was 'secret' since it was splattered all across the wide shows. And, not to be asking too much, but could you explain how she destroyed her family? (She got divorced and her uncle murdered her mother, I know). Just curious and thanks for providing more information.

Well if the above results are any indication, here comes an onslaught of "thumbs down"... But I honestly can't see why this girl ever got so popular (and I was here when she hit her peak at 17-18). She is not particularly gorgeous (huge forehead), she is not a particularly great singer (compared to the average J-Pop ladies out there) and her songs are standard J-Pop fare. I am sure she is a nice woman and all, but she seems to have enjoyed such immense status as "one of the greats" when she doesn't seem to have deserved it.
Yukinochan
Oh poor baby. Hey, where's Sam? Tsk Tsk, 15 minutes of fame came and went read her wiki she not married to Sam anymore.
Namie is a great singer and dancer alot better than the other crappy ones singing now.
oginome
She's a homewrecker because she went out with a guy for a couple of months, even though she was single at the time they met and so was he? You need to re-evaluate things, dear. Why bring up Sam anyway? He's completely irrelevant to the discussion. If there's someone who's 15 minutes of fame has ended, it's Sam... all the way back in 1997, when the 38 year old lech impregnated the still teenage Namie. Nasty.
smithinjapan
It's amazing that some people will claim this woman is untalented when she sings using her own voice (hence having to cancel) while many other Japanese musicians put Milli Vanilli to shame, writes her own songs (at least some), does her own dancing -- which is quite good -- and generally puts on a great show. Not my favourite artist by any means, but at least one I can respect.
Get well soon.
cleo
Lemme see... not very 'secret' when it was all being reported by the gossips.....and this harmed her family in what way?
They met in summer 2009, broke up the following summer....how many children did they manage to produce in that time, ninja?
Nessie
Um ... that's WHY they claim she's untalented.
She can dance. But I've seen better vocal chops at the nikuya-san.
David King
People shouldn't bag her. She has some great songs and I hope she gets better. I think people can be too judgemental at times.
d01chiemi
She's done amazing concert so far. I've been to her concert at once, she keep singing and dancing in her concert. I believe that she'll show up in front of fans soon!
d35leah
I'm 20 yeas old female living in Okinawa, Japan! I am a big fan of Amuro Namie! She has great talent as a singer! Im sure that she will make up for the Yokohama concert with a repeat performance on Dec 27.
Anri Young
For such a small girl, she has a powerful voice and she is always singing with dancing at her concert and it must be hard on her. I had been her concert once 3 years ago, it was awesome and actually she was really pretty and nobody think then she was 31 years old. She is 34 years old now, it is going to be hard to perform her show for her like she had done ever.
