Actress and pianist Nao Matsushita, 25, who played the lead character in NHK's morning drama series “Gegege no Nyobo,” based on a 2008 autobiography by the wife of “Gegege no Kitaro” horror manga artist Shigeru Mizuki, 87, will try something completely different in her next TV drama appearance -- that of a detective in Fuji TV's as-yet untitled series to air in January.
"I'm really looking forward to starring in a gritty drama. My image this year has been a 'national wife,' thanks to 'Gegege no Kitaro.' I wonder if I will become known as a tough woman detective."
Matsushita is having a busy month -- she was chosen to captain the red team in NHK’s popular New Year’s Eve music program “Kohaku Uta Gassen” (Red and White Song Contest), and she was also one of the winners of the Best Formalist Awards, organized by the Japan Formalwear Association which selects celebrities who look good in formal attire.

Have any of you ever heard her play the piano? She's actually quite good. She composes too.

Yes, a great musician and good actress. By the way, since it is listed under entertainment news, I would say it IS news.
