Deliverance was, and still is, an awesome piece of cinema. Not many actors could have taken on that rape scene.

Ned Beatty, with great courage, you auditioned for and acted a role that brought ‘realism’ and great attention to the horrifying and humiliating act of violence. - ‘Bravo’ and “Rest In Peace”.

Deliverance is a great John Boorman film along with Excalibur, Hope and Glory . His Emerald Forest depicts also another urban man’s helplessness in the wilderness, desperation, quest, resolution and redemption.

His speech in Network (1976) about how just a few corporations run everything and even tell national governments what to do was very prescient.

“Homicide: Life on the Streets.”

A criminally underrated show, that he was great in. Same writer(s) as The Wire.

Didn't he squeal like a pig in Deliverance?

It was one of the supporting actors that I enjoyed the most on the screen, I guess should be grateful the headline did not reduce his legacy to being just "that henchman from Superman" just because it was one of his better known roles.
