Well @Raw Beer - Since you ask, his top 5 songs on Spotify (alone) have been streamed over 706 million times.

In December 270 doctors, physicians and professors signed an open letter to Spotify asking the service to "moderate misinformation on its platform."

270 signatures that included some junior doctors, physicians and professors.

Rogan has discouraged vaccination in younger people and promoted the off-label use of the anti-parasitic drug ivermectin to treat the virus.

Yeah, very sensible recommendation. Rogan discouraged vaccination in younger healthy people and promoted the off-label use of the safe and effective repurposed drug ivermectin to treat the virus, based on his discussions with plenty of experts.

The Robert Malone interview (#1757) was great. He also had Peter McCullough (#1747), and John Abramson (#1756). Highly recommended!

Poor Abramson, working hard to fight the promotion of worthless things that are not supported by science...

Abramson documented the multiple examples of big pharma corruption, so I am not at all surprised ...

Rogan's podcast racks up millions of listens...

while Young's songs rack up how many?

Love ya Uncle Neil, but Spotify don't care. Even if dozens of other artists got behind this, which isn't impossible, Spotify won't change a thing. If anything this is good publicity for them.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Not too long ago it was the Dixie Chicks speaking out against G.W. Bush and the "Intelligence Community". Now its the "Scientific Community" and the 280 "Doctors" whom many aren't even real doctors. Yes old man, take a look at YOUR life.

1 ( +7 / -6 )

Good on him. The royalties Spotify pay are pitiful anyway , BUT its a great way to protest the rubbish that Rogan is being allowed to spread.

He can leave his stuff in glorious Lossless formats on other platforms

This.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

The problem is that these people do not have any evidence-based positions. If they did, it wouldn't be misinformation.

And who are you to judge? How can you be so sure of your position, considering that Dr MacCullough has been a leader in successfully treating people suffering from COVID. If he was harming his patients or engaged in malpractice they'd be able to deregister him, but he's not so all they can do is sling mud at him. And it's not sticking.

As for Dr Malone, he's one of the inventors of mRNA technology (not mRNA vaccines themselves, is is often incorrectly reported) and holds patents related to it, so I think he knows a lot more than you about the technology and its pros and cons.

They're both medical doctors with decades of experience between them in treating patients and engaging in medical research. And they're doing what they do now at great personal cost - they have a lot to lose by pushing pack, as opposed to doctors who aren't really happy about what's going on but don't want to rock the boat lest they lose their livelihoods, and doctors who just follow the corrupt FDA and CDC without question.

Of course, you're free to think whatever you want, but the prevailing view - or as some like to inaccurately call it, "the consensus" - is not necessarily correct or honest.

Just saying.

7 ( +14 / -7 )

Censorship is fine....

Saying The Holocaust was a lie and 8 year olds are "fair game" will get you censored. Quite rightly too.... I would add deliberately giving misinformation that can lead to death or ill health to my censorship list.

It just happens that some of them are experts in their field and whose evidence-based positions differ from the mainstream narrative hammered by the legacy media, which is heavily funded by the pharmaceutical industry.

The problem is that these people do not have any evidence-based positions. If they did, it wouldn't be misinformation.

The responses from the far-left/authoritarian apologists here is hilarious. Amazing how threatened they can feel by a guy with a long-form online radio show who has guests from all walks of life on his show. It just happens that some of them are experts in their field and whose evidence-based positions differ from the mainstream narrative hammered by the legacy media, which is heavily funded by the pharmaceutical industry.

As far as ol' Neil is concerned, he can do whatever he likes with his music - it's his after all. At least he's not calling for Rogan to be cancelled, so I'll give him that.

Lol look at you all argue over Joe Rogan and Neil.

I dont see the point of attacking another person over their point of view.

Me too. I quite like Joe, but I attack him for platforming people that are spreading fake information about vaccines -- potentially causing death to those who believe the disinformation being spread by them.

Poor Abramson, working hard to fight the promotion of worthless things that are not supported by science just to be grouped together with two people that endlessly promote worthless things (and conspiracies) based on complete lack of evidence.

It's amazing how people like Neil young and Rage Against The Machine, who used to be against restrictions on free speech and other freedoms are all now in love with government and dislike free speech. It's pretty sad.

Oh, Neil still supports free speech. He just doesn't support misinformation that kills.

Who even listens to Neil Young anyway? Anyone who still does probably has his records. More than likely on vinyl.

I do, and a mate of mine has a large vinyl collection of his songs.

I have only seen it from the anti-vax side. What examples do you have pro-vax misinformation?

Quite a bit out there if you look for it. The problem is, every time I present those facts here the post is deleted by the mods. That in itself should tell you something. It's one reason I mostly stay out of vaccine debates here.

The problem with platforming those people, is that they speak misinformation and Joe isn't qualified to question them on it. At that point some listeners are susceptible to this misinformation and in many cases we see people dying of Covid because they didn't get vaccines based on this misinformation.

If Neil doesn't like Rogan's podcast he doesn't have to listen to it.

But he has no right to interfere with another person's right to choose what to listen to.

He's not. He's just saying Spotify can have Joe or Neil. Up to them.

I have always admired the way Neil has kept to his principles in his business dealings.

Joe's podcast is fine, but it has been spreading too much misinformation on vaccines lately.

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

Neil Young has demanded in an open letter to Spotify to remove his music from the platform he said is spreading vaccine disinformation via the popular podcaster Joe Rogan.

This is a costly stand but he can afford it.

And still nothing compared to what others are putting on the line when they believe wrong information about covid, vaccines and treatment

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Joe Rogan. A less than successful cock-fighting career as a cage combatant gladiator. Continually, spews disinformation and propaganda and complete falsehoods as factual.

He's Oprah for spongy white-trash males who are fairly witless and venerate a toady libertarian who thinks Elon Musk is Einstein.

Rogan has very little to say that is illuminating or actually revealing - mostly it's echo chamber gossip. And tends towards fawning over guests. It's akin to Vince McMahon interviewing some boneheaded fake wrestler.

As for Neil Young. More cred than Rogan could accumulate in a hundred lifetimes.

-5 ( +14 / -19 )

I would support Joe Rogan over Neil Young any day

3 ( +16 / -13 )

"Keep on rockin' in the free world"... of vaccine mandates, passports and support of big pharma! Woo!!

5 ( +15 / -10 )

He's simply a talk show hosts who invites interesting people on for 3-hour long rambling discussions. It's a great antidote to a sound-bite world that seeks to provide sensationalism rather than information, though too long to sit through unless the guest is especially interesting.

His opinions are not central to the show at all, as he focuses on each guest. To the degree that his opinions matter, they are pretty center of the road for most Americans.

That is why I like the JRE podcast. He asks good questions, what most viewers want to know, and he lets his guests talk.

The Robert Malone interview (#1757) was great. He also had Peter McCullough (#1747), and John Abramson (#1756). Highly recommended!

I’m still wondering where the censorship some posters are talking about is involved here.

Has Young called for Rogan to be censored or taken off air? Genuine question.

I think the word ‘censorship’ is starting to lose its meaning among the alternative media watchers. It’s becoming a knee-jerk reaction like ‘socialism’ from the right.

-8 ( +6 / -14 )

By the time they got to Rogan, he was 40 million strong...

6 ( +11 / -5 )

Who is Joe Rogan?

At least that's an honest question. Many of the people who want him silenced or think he's some right-winger have never listened to his show but formed judgments based on what they have been told to think about him.

If extended interviews with a wide range of questions where the interviewee is allowed to talk at length are a bad thing, then one may as well put on the uniform and learn to goose-step.

So far as disinformation, we have got plenty of that from both sides. Pick your poison.

7 ( +15 / -8 )

I’ll take Neil Young over Rogan any day. Rogan’s show is conspiracy garbage to feed conservative trolls for advertising dollars.

Young doesn’t care about making money off Spotify and would rather sacrifice that money than be on the same platform as crooks. Bravo

-14 ( +0 / -14 )

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Strangely I don't like either of these guys.

Neil is a hypocrite that preaches peace, love, sharing, etc.. but then runs from his native Canada as to not pay tax for the social programs his own music promoted.

Rogan is just another lowest common denominator of the uneducated in the USA.

Another conspiracy theorists, that if we are to believe him and the rest, every country around the world including rivals that are now again pointing guns at each other somehow just put everything aside and all came together in agreement on a supposed false epidemic and unnecessary vaccines.

I mean under the message Rogan and the like, the USA, Russia, China, Japan, Germany, France, UK, Australia, Canada, NZ, Mexico, Peru, Columbia, Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Vietnam, 2 Koreas, etc... Half of which wouldn't agree if the other said water was wet, somehow all are on board with the Covid and vaccine conspiracy.

Just think about that for a minute when you read the next article about Russian troops heading to the Ukraine, or an article on China encroaching on more islands near the Philippines, Japan, Vietnam, etc...

-12 ( +4 / -16 )

If Neil doesn't like Rogan's podcast he doesn't have to listen to it.

But he has no right to interfere with another person's right to choose what to listen to.

He has every right to refuse to support something that spread disinformation. It is the same situation as if he knew about a bar that freely lets people drink and drive and he refused to let his music be used there.

Ah yes. Defending censorship, a powerful state and drug company profits.

Nothing of sorts, there is no merit in letting false information be peddled. Specially if this puts in risk the health and lives of people. If a person wants to oppose false information being promoted he has every right (and even responsibility) to do it.

Agree with your assessments & opinions here @Strangerland 9:10am. - Seems really ‘disingenuous’ when some ‘feign ignorance’ when they pride themselves as ALL knowledgeable on ALL topics and have access to so much information. - Perhaps it was just a poke at those they know are on the other side of the spectrum?

Rogan is filling a need in the talkerverse. He has longform interviews that actually touch on issues that need to be fleshed out, that cannot be adequately discussed in 6 or 8 minutes on a cable TV show. That is why he is so popular.

I like Neil's music, but he is off base here. If he were sincere, he would do his thing without loudly proclaiming it from the rooftops. Virtue signalling is not a good look at the best of times, and less so when one millionaire entertainer is dissing another.

My thoughts on Rogan are the same as with most things - if you don't like it, don't listen to it. I think Neil Young will find quickly enough that Rogan will still be on Spotify, while Young won't. I'm not saying that's going to cause much, if any, pain to Young, but it's not going to cause any for Rogan either. So it seems like the effort is misplaced, and in the end Neil Young fans will be the ones who lose out.

Defending censorship, a powerful state and drug company profits.

Refusing to collaborate with greedy corporation profiting from the promotion of ignorance and the exploitation of young musicians is not defending censorship etc.

Neil Young is courageously following the anti-authoritarian path of Woody Guthrie, The Fugs, The MC5 and punk rockers like Crass and X-Ray Spex.

-3 ( +14 / -17 )

I'd want to check the Spotify contract for Neil's music. It is doubtful that he can have it removed in a 1-sided announcement.

I don't know much about JoeR. Last time I saw him, he was hosting a cable TV show where people ate nasty foods with a time limit. Before that he had a TV show degrading women. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_3N8RnPAUQ high-class entertainment there. Meh. I certainly don't care what he says about medical things.
